The 2026 Walking Tour by the Scavalcamontagne company has chosen Villafranca Piemonte, a municipality in the Province of Turin, for its seasonal debut. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 9:00 PM, with the show "Primo Appuntamento": an evening of open-air musical theater with free admission, launching the 2026 journey through the Terre dei Savoia. For Villafranca Piemonte, this is a special occasion, as it marks the very first of eight stops scheduled in this corner of Piedmont between the Turin and Cuneo areas.

Who are the Scavalcamontagne

Founded in 2020 from an idea by Teatro della Caduta and Torino Open Lab, the company turns Italy's trails into open-air stages. The artists travel literally on foot, from one village to another, accompanied by residents, tourists, and hikers. Theirs is a "walking theater" that weaves together opera, live music, acting, juggling, and circus arts. The project was created by soprano and actress Irene Geninatti Chiolero and actor and singer Danilo Ramon Giannini, joined by a cast of musical theater and contemporary circus artists.

The show "Primo Appuntamento"

Opening the evening in Villafranca Piemonte is "Primo Appuntamento", a production that recounts with irony and lightness the anxieties, expectations, enthusiasms, and disappointments of a couple, all to the sound of live music. A brilliant show, suitable for the whole family, combining theater, singing, and comedy in an hour of entertainment in the town square. In case of rain, the performance is guaranteed to take place in an indoor space.

A popular and free formula

Scavalcamontagne shows are always free to attend, using the "hat-passing" donation model: at the end of the performance, the audience is invited to support the artists directly with a voluntary contribution. It is a pact with the spectators to keep culture accessible to everyone, even in smaller centers like Villafranca Piemonte, where large theatrical tours rarely reach.

A tour crossing Piedmont on foot

The Villafranca Piemonte stop opens a route that, between June 9 and 17, 2026, touches eight municipalities in the Terre dei Savoia: in addition to Villafranca, these include Moretta, Polonghera, Faule, Casalgrasso, Lombriasco, Bene Vagienna, and Salmour. From there, the Walking Tour continues throughout the summer across several provinces of Piedmont and other Italian regions.
