Sbarbatelle: showcasing young women in wine at San Martino Alfieri

Sbarbatelle is a wine festival dedicated to female producers under 40, hosted annually at the stunning Tenuta Marchesi Alfieri in the town of San Martino Alfieri, in the province of Asti, in the heart of the Asti Monferrato region of Piedmont. The event gathers over 70 winemakers from all over Italy, ready to share their personal stories and offer tastings of more than 200 labels at tables set up in the historic English-style park and the estate's elegant Orangerie.

A movement for gender equality in the wine world

Founded in 2017 by the Asti delegation of AIS Piemonte (Italian Sommelier Association), Sbarbatelle has grown year after year into a genuine movement. In 2024, it took a significant step forward by becoming an Association, with the goal of promoting gender equity in the wine sector, highlighting excellence, innovation, and diversity, and investing in the future of wine through training and collaborative events.

Tastings, workshops, and experiences

The ticket grants access to tastings of over 200 labels and free participation in all scheduled activities. Highlights include:

• Thematic workshops on spirits, viticultural research, sensory analysis, honey, and local gastronomic excellence;
• "Talks under the Oak Tree", open-air meetings where producers share their experiences and perspectives on contemporary Italian wine;
• A culinary selection curated by local restaurants;
• Family-friendly services and areas dedicated to four-legged friends.

Adopt a Sbarbatella

A signature project of the festival is "Adopt a Sbarbatella": Piedmontese producers welcome colleagues from other regions in a mutual exchange experience that goes beyond simple tasting, creating a network of collaboration among young women in the wine industry.

A territory to discover

The setting is the hills of the Asti Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage site alongside the Langhe and Roero, where viticulture is both culture and landscape. Visiting Sbarbatelle means immersing yourself in one of Italy's most celebrated wine regions, filled with historic villages, wineries, and rolling hills. The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of San Martino Alfieri.
