A masked parade through the streets of an alpine village in the Via Lattea
At an altitude of over 1,500 meters in the heart of the Via Lattea, the town of Sauze d'Oulx (Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont) celebrates Carnival with one of the most anticipated events of the winter season. The Carnival Parade is a popular, festive gathering that turns the streets of this alpine village into a river of masks, colors, and joy, involving residents, tourists, families, and the many children who flock to the resort during the snowy months.
The meeting point is at Campetto Clotes, where the masked procession begins, traveling through the town center to conclude in Piazza III Reggimento Alpini. Here, the most awaited ritual takes place: the symbolic burning of the Carnival, an effigy set aflame to ideally close the festivities and bid farewell to winter.
The event is organized by the Fortur Tourist Consortium, with the patronage of the Municipality of Sauze d'Oulx and the collaboration of local Ski Schools and Ski Clubs, which often participate with their own themes. The refreshment break, featuring hot drinks and typical Carnival sweets, is managed by the Sauze d'Oulx Public Assistance.
The organizers' invitation is simple: dress up and have fun. The event is open to everyone, adults and children alike, and is completely free. For those spending their snow holidays in the upper Susa Valley, it is the perfect opportunity to experience an afternoon of authentic celebration and tradition in one of the most popular resorts in the Via Lattea ski area.
The 2026 Carnival Parade in Sauze d'Oulx was held on Saturday, February 14, a date that coincided with Valentine's Day this year, offering attendees an "alternative Valentine's Day" amidst the snows of the Via Lattea. The celebration was part of a lively Carnival week across the entire ski area.
As every year, the cheerful event brought music, colors, entertainment, and plenty of fun, with a warm welcome to all participants, especially those in costume.
Local Ski Schools and Ski Clubs collaborated on the parade, each with a specific theme.
Sauze d'Oulx can be reached by car via the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway, taking the Oulx exit and then driving up to the resort. By train, the nearest station is Oulx-Cesana-Claviere-Sestriere, which is connected to Sauze d'Oulx by local buses.
The parade usually takes place during the Carnival period in the late afternoon, with the meeting point around 5:30 PM at Campetto Clotes.
This is an outdoor event at high altitude: wear warm clothing and footwear suitable for snow. Admission is free. Dressing up in costume is highly recommended.
