The oldest festival in the Piacenza area dedicated to salami, featuring taste, music, and tradition
The Sarmato Salami Festival is one of the most deeply rooted food and wine events in Emilia-Romagna and the oldest in the province of Piacenza. Organized by Pro Loco Sarmato APS with the support of the municipal administration, every year at the end of May it transforms the small municipality of Sarmato, in the Piacenza Val Tidone, into a large meeting point for taste and conviviality.
At the heart of the festival is, of course, the Piacentino DOP salami, a symbol of local charcuterie, accompanied by the great classics of Emilian cuisine. The food stalls offer typical traditional dishes prepared by volunteers, with a particular focus on local suppliers and the zero-kilometer supply chain.
The event takes place over a weekend, from Friday to Sunday, at the Festa Area in Via G. Moia. Friday and Saturday evenings are dedicated to live music and dancing, with concerts, Latin parties, and DJ sets that liven up the festival until late at night. Sunday is the main day: stalls open non-stop from the morning, a market, performances by flag-wavers and musicians, the traditional tombola with rich prizes, and evening shows with orchestras and artists.
In 2025, the Salami Festival received the prestigious Quality Festival recognition from UNPLI, a national award presented in the Senate that certifies the authenticity of the event, the promotion of typical products, and the commitment of volunteers. An achievement that rewards decades of work and confirms Sarmato as one of the Piacenza capitals of good food.
Between a slice of salami and a glass of wine from the Colli Piacentini, the Sarmato Salami Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover the hospitality of Val Tidone and the authentic flavors of this corner of Emilia-Romagna.
The 58th edition of the Sarmato Salami Festival was held from May 29 to 31, 2026, at the Festa Area in Via G. Moia, confirming the tried-and-tested formula of three days dedicated to taste and celebration. It was the first edition celebrated after the event received the Quality Festival recognition, an award accepted in the Senate. Pro Loco Sarmato APS offered food stalls with typical dishes, musical evenings, and the anticipated Sunday with a market, flag-wavers, and tombola.
Sarmato is located in Val Tidone, in the province of Piacenza. By car, it is easily reachable from the A21 Turin-Piacenza-Brescia motorway (exits Piacenza Ovest or Castel San Giovanni). The nearest train station is Castel San Giovanni, on the Piacenza-Voghera line.
