About Saint Martin's Fair

In Montalto Pavese, amidst the hills of Oltrepò, the Saint Martin's Fair celebrates autumn and the rural roots of the territory. Among chestnuts, mulled wine, and new wine, the village comes alive with the parade of vintage tractors, the fun Farmer's Triathlon, the pie-baking contest, and falconry. A feast of taste and tradition that brings the atmosphere of the Pavia countryside back to the square.

Saint Martin's Day in the Oltrepò Hills

When the Saint Martin's summer arrives and the new wine is uncorked, the village of Montalto Pavese, in the Province of Pavia, celebrates with its Saint Martin's Fair. Amidst the vine-covered hills of Oltrepò Pavese, the historic center fills with stalls, aromas, and traditions that tell the story of rural life in this land of wines.

Flavors of Autumn

The fair is, first and foremost, a triumph of autumn flavors: roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and hot chocolate prepared by the Alpini Group, and the new wine of Oltrepò. The Pro Loco offers risotto starting from 1:00 PM, while throughout the day, food stalls offer typical local products.

Vintage Tractors and Farmer's Triathlon

The most characteristic moment is the parade of vintage tractors, which on Sunday morning brings the atmosphere of rural tradition back to the square. In the afternoon, at the sports field, the fun Farmer's Triathlon takes place, with challenges like the greasy pole, tug-of-war, and sack race. There's also a pie-baking contest, falconry shows, and games and workshops for the whole village.

A Community Celebration

Organized by the Municipality of Montalto Pavese and the Pro Loco with the involvement of local associations—from the Alpini to ASD Montalto Pavese—the Saint Martin's Fair is one of the most beloved autumn events in the Oltrepò region. A day that combines taste, tradition, and fun, enhancing the peasant and wine-making identity of this corner of Lombardy.
