Three days of flavor, music, and tradition in the alleys of Frasso Telesino, in the Sannio region near Benevento
«Sapori al Borgo» is the summer event dedicated to the flavors and traditions of Frasso Telesino, a town of just under two thousand inhabitants in the province of Benevento, in Campania, perched at 374 meters above sea level on the western slopes of the Taburno Camposauro massif. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Frasso Telesino APS with the patronage of the Municipality and was born from a simple yet effective idea: to use the stones, alleys, and courtyards of the town as a dining room and stage for three consecutive evenings.
It is not just a festival dedicated to a single product, but a true showcase: alongside dishes prepared by the Pro Loco cooks, you will find producers from the Sannio region offering wine, craft beer, meats, and local specialties, while the cultural program brings together folk music, theater, art, and craft workshops.
For the first few editions, the heart of the festival was Terravecchia, the ancient core of Frasso Telesino: a maze of stone houses, arches, and stairways that perfectly hosts stalls, long tables, and small stages in the summer. In 2024, the festival reached its fourth edition, attracting visitors from all over the Telesina Valley; in 2025, the Pro Loco repeated the formula in mid-August, again within the village streets.
Starting in 2026, «Sapori al Borgo» changes its skin and becomes itinerant. The organizers have chosen to move the event each year to a different neighborhood of the town, explaining that «each year we will change neighborhoods to choose a different vantage point from which to observe Frasso». It is a choice that says much about the spirit of the initiative: more than an event to export, it is a way to help the locals themselves — and those arriving from outside — rediscover corners of the town that risk remaining off the beaten path.
The signature dish of the festival is pizzette with viticaglie, fried every evening by the Pro Loco volunteers: viticaglie are a wild field herb, very common in the Frasso area, which is dipped in batter and fried. It is the kind of preparation that is not found in restaurants and survives only thanks to those who still cook it at home.
Alongside the pizzette, past editions have seen the participation of local businesses such as the Birrificio del Sannio, Cantina Cautiero, Macelleria Maddaloni, and Ristorante Grottino. Frasso Telesino, after all, is known in the Sannio as a town of wine and traditions: we are in one of the most interesting wine-growing areas of Campania, that of the white wines made from Falanghina grapes and the Aglianico reds that mature between the Telesina Valley and the slopes of the Taburno.
Entertainment accompanies the tasting trail throughout the evenings. Previous editions have featured folk music groups — including Sfessania — and local bands like Progetto Sound and Area Acustica, while children have had their own space with puppet shows curated by local associations. There have also been unusual additions, such as the exhibition of a single-seater car and a Formula 1 simulator brought by the Valentino Racing team with local driver Valentino Carofano.
With the itinerant format inaugurated in 2026, craft workshops have been added: from the afternoon until evening, the host neighborhood fills with stations dedicated to trades, art, and theater, in addition to the food and wine stalls.
The festival is held in August, traditionally around Ferragosto (mid-August) or on the central weekend of the month, and lasts for three days, from the afternoon until late at night. Access to the village streets is free: you only pay for what you consume at the producer and Pro Loco stalls.
From August 10 to 12, 2026, «Sapori al Borgo» returns to Frasso Telesino, in the Sannio region near Benevento, with a novelty that changes the setup of the event: it is the first itinerant edition. No longer a single fixed location in the village of Terravecchia, but a neighborhood chosen each year by the Pro Loco. For 2026, the choice fell on the Bocca and Russi neighborhoods.
«Each year we will change neighborhoods to choose a different vantage point from which to observe Frasso», explain the organizers, who invite the public to «experience three days of beauty, traditions, flavors, and community together». The announced format includes, from the afternoon until evening, craft workshops, music, theater, and art, alongside the food and wine offerings curated by the Pro Loco and local producers.
The image of the 2026 edition also plays on local identity: the original illustration chosen as the poster collects the symbols of Frasso Telesino, from the ash tree (frassino) that gives the town its name to Mount San Vito, from the Maltempo stream to the Majo, the traditional Frasso festival. The fourteen stars drawn correspond to the letters that make up the name «Frasso Telesino».
As of the update date of this entry, the Pro Loco Frasso Telesino APS has announced dates, neighborhoods, and general setup, but not yet the hourly program with the names of musical guests, workshops, and producers present. It is advisable to follow the association's website and its social channels in the days leading up to the event.
Frasso Telesino (ZIP 82030), province of Benevento, Campania. In the first editions, the festival took place in the ancient village of Terravecchia; from 2026, the location changes every year and moves to a different neighborhood of the town.
By car: take the SS372 «Telesina» road, which connects Caianello (A1 exit) to Benevento, and continue towards Dugenta-Frasso Telesino, driving up the provincial road to the town; it is about 60 km from Naples, thirty from Benevento, and forty from Caserta. By train: the Frasso Telesino-Dugenta station, on the Naples-Benevento-Foggia line, is served by Trenitalia regional trains from Naples Centrale (just under an hour on the fastest connections) and from Benevento, but it is located in the plain below the town: a car or taxi is needed for the final stretch.
Access to the village streets is free. Tastings are paid for at the individual producer and Pro Loco stalls; price lists are not usually published in advance.

The village can only be explored on foot, among cobblestones and stairways: comfortable shoes are recommended. Evenings at this altitude can be cool even in August. It is advisable to leave your car on the approach roads to the town, as the streets of the historic center are narrow and pedestrianized.
