The historic Valdichiana livestock fair, featuring animal blessings and the Chianina cattle exhibition in Torrita di Siena
The Sant'Antonio Fair is one of the most deeply rooted and historic events in Torrita di Siena, located in the province of Siena in the heart of the Tuscan Valdichiana. Dedicated to Saint Anthony the Abbot, the patron saint of animals celebrated in mid-January, the fair has its origins in the region's agricultural and livestock-rearing heritage. Since the early 20th century, this initiative has drawn countless visitors from across the Valdichiana and Val d'Orcia: Torrita was the hub for livestock trading, making it an unmissable commercial appointment for the entire area.
While the fair was once primarily a major livestock market, today it serves as a gathering place to experience the Torrita historic center and promote the animal breeds characteristic of the region. The heart of the event is the Valdichiana Selected Livestock Exhibition, primarily dedicated to the famous Chianina cattle breed—one of the oldest and most prized in the world—though it features much more. The exhibition, set up along the Passeggio Giuseppe Garibaldi by the Gruppo Allevatori Amatoriale Torrita, is the most anticipated moment for families and enthusiasts alike.
The Sant'Antonio Fair winds around the walls of the historic center, transforming Torrita di Siena into a large festival space. Along the streets and squares, you will find craft and food markets, a general trade fair in the Gioco del Pallone area, and stalls featuring typical Valdichiana products. Numerous local associations enliven the day with stands, demonstrations, and initiatives: from the Flag-wavers and Drummers Group to the Pro Loco, the Public Assistance, the Misericordia, the Società Astronomica Poliziana, the In Vino Veritas Group, and the La Casa dei Gatti e dei loro Amici association.
The most symbolic moment remains the blessing of the animals, which takes place in the area in front of Porta a Sole: a heartfelt ritual that brings pet owners and their animals together under the protection of Saint Anthony the Abbot. Side events include a fun, non-competitive walk open to everyone and conferences dedicated to the rural world, proving that the event continues to evolve while remaining faithful to its farming roots.
Organized by the Municipality of Torrita di Siena together with the Pro Loco, the Gruppo Allevatori Amatoriale Torrita, and in collaboration with Slow Food, the Sant'Antonio Fair is a free event worth visiting for anyone wishing to discover the most authentic side of Tuscany, defined by its villages and the traditions of the Valdichiana.
The 27th edition of the Sant'Antonio Fair was held on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, around the walls of the historic center of Torrita di Siena. The heart of the day was the 27th Valdichiana Selected Livestock Exhibition, set up along the Passeggio Giuseppe Garibaldi by the Gruppo Allevatori Amatoriale Torrita. The event was organized by the Pro Loco, the Municipality of Torrita di Siena, the Gruppo Allevatori Amatoriale Torrita, and Slow Food, with free admission.
Torrita di Siena is located in the Valdichiana, in the province of Siena. By car, it can be reached via the A1 motorway (Valdichiana/Bettolle-Sinalunga exit) or the Siena-Bettolle expressway. The Torrita di Siena train station is served by the line connecting Siena to Chiusi.
The fair takes place over the course of a full day, roughly from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, around the walls of the historic center and along the Passeggio Giuseppe Garibaldi. The blessing of the animals is held in the morning in the area in front of Porta a Sole.
