Faith, music, and local tradition in Gricignano di Aversa
Every summer, the community of Gricignano di Aversa, in the heart of the Agro Aversano in the province of Caserta, gathers around the small rural church of Santa Maria a Piro for one of its most beloved festivals. From July 24 to 26, 2026, the event reaches its thirteenth edition, cementing its place as a staple of the local summer calendar and a moment of strong identity for the entire inland Campania region.
At the heart of the event is the popular devotion to the Madonna and Child venerated in the church of Santa Maria a Piro, an ancient tuff stone building located along Via Boscariello, in the open countryside near the Nola-Villa Literno state road exit and the US Navy base. The three evenings open with religious celebrations and Holy Masses, renewing a cult rooted for generations among the local inhabitants.
Alongside the religious aspect, the festival offers a rich program of open-air concerts and evening shows. The 2026 edition kicks off on Friday, July 24, with Holy Mass at 7:45 PM celebrated by Father Alessandro Arnone, followed at 9:00 PM by the official Queen tribute with the band "Queen of Bulsara". The following evenings continue with Neapolitan folk music and entertainment for all ages, featuring live artists, tributes, and festive moments that enliven the area until late at night.
During the three evenings, the area around the church fills with food stalls offering traditional Caserta and Campania specialties, while recreational activities designed for both children and adults make the festival a gathering place for families and visitors. Admission is free, in the spirit of a village festival that combines faith, conviviality, and the celebration of local roots.
Organized by the festival committee chaired by Salvatore Falcone, the Santa Maria a Piro Festival is now a consolidated tradition in Gricignano di Aversa: an event that, edition after edition, attracts worshippers and curious visitors from neighboring towns and represents one of the most anticipated summer events in the Agro Aversano, straddling the provinces of Caserta and Naples.
The thirteenth edition of the Santa Maria a Piro Festival enlivens Gricignano di Aversa from Friday, July 24, to Sunday, July 26, 2026.
