The Gargano Roots Festival
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
SanMarkè Fest was founded in 2025 as the Roots Festival of San Marco in Lamis, a town in the Gargano area of the Foggia province, in the heart of Apulia. The event takes place in the evocative Villa Comunale and offers five evenings dedicated to the culture, music, literature, and identity of the territory, featuring journalists, actors, directors, writers, and artists who remain deeply connected to their origins.
The festival is promoted by the Circolo ACLI San Giuseppe APS and enjoyed a highly successful inaugural edition, made possible by regional funding. The goal is to create a dialogue between tradition and innovation, celebrating the roots of San Marco and the Gargano through the stories of those who left these lands but carried their history with them. Each evening, a Roots Award is presented to individuals who keep their bond with the community alive.
The program alternates between book presentations, current affairs debates, award ceremonies, and concerts. A significant space is reserved for Gargano folk music, featuring local tambourine groups and folk songs, alongside evenings of singer-songwriter performances and live music shows. The festival concludes with a grand concert and a spectacular midnight fireworks display.
With over a thousand attendees per evening during its first edition, SanMarkè Fest has established itself as one of the most popular summer events in the Municipality of San Marco in Lamis and the entire Gargano area. Its free-admission format and the high caliber of its guests make it an ideal opportunity to combine tourism, culture, and the rediscovery of Apulian folk traditions in a town that preserves the rural and religious memory of the Gargano.
SanMarkè Fest 2026 does not yet have an official date. In the 2025 inaugural edition, the festival took place in mid-July at the Villa Comunale of San Marco in Lamis, and a similar schedule is expected for 2026. The detailed program, including guests, meetings, and concerts, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. This page will be updated as soon as official dates are published.
