The festival celebrating the signature grape of Central Italy, in the heart of San Giovanni Valdarno
The Sangiovese Festival is a premier food and wine event celebrating the signature grape of Central Italy in the historic heart of San Giovanni Valdarno, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany. Launched in 2024, the event has rapidly grown into a landmark occasion for wine enthusiasts from the Valdarno region and beyond, successfully blending regional promotion, support for the wine supply chain, and the revitalization of public urban spaces.
The festival unfolds across Piazza Cavour and Piazza Masaccio, two of the most picturesque spots in the historic center. Here, over 80 producers from the four regions where Sangiovese is native—Tuscany, Umbria, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio—gather to showcase more than 400 labels for tasting and purchase. From Chianti to Orcia, and from Morellino to Sangiovese di Romagna, it is a comprehensive journey through the many expressions of one great grape variety.
Beyond the tasting stands, the program features masterclasses led by experts, talks and wine discussions focused on responsible consumption, internationalization, and the wine industry, social tastings exploring international interpretations of the grape, as well as live podcasts, DJ sets, and live music. In Piazza Masaccio, a dedicated food truck area offers high-quality local products and street food from lunch through dinner.
Admission to the festival is free: tastings are accessed via tokens, while wine glasses are provided with a small deposit. The event also champions sustainability, rewarding those who travel to San Giovanni Valdarno by train with a complimentary tasting token. Organized by the Municipality of San Giovanni Valdarno in collaboration with Confcommercio Firenze-Arezzo, with the support of the Tuscany Region, the Province of Arezzo, and the Arezzo-Siena Chamber of Commerce, the Sangiovese Festival has become one of the most popular wine events of the Tuscan spring, drawing over 20,000 visitors.
The third edition of the Sangiovese Festival, held on April 18 and 19, 2026 in San Giovanni Valdarno, confirmed the winning formula of previous years with over 80 producers from Tuscany, Umbria, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio and more than 400 labels available for tasting. Between Piazza Cavour and Piazza Masaccio, visitors enjoyed tasting stands, masterclasses, wine talks, social tastings, live podcasts, DJ sets, and live music, along with a food truck area dedicated to quality street food. The event concluded with over 20,000 visitors recorded over the two days.
Announced guests include radio hosts Nikki and Alteria, Tommaso Inghirami (Fattoria di Grignano), Giuditta Zamperini (Consorzio Orcia DOC), Roberto Stucchi Prinetti (Biodistretto Chianti), and sommelier Cesario delle Donne.
