About Sangiovese Festival

The Sangiovese Festival transforms the historic center of San Giovanni Valdarno into a vast open-air wine cellar dedicated to the most iconic grape variety of Central Italy. Over two days, between Piazza Cavour and Piazza Masaccio, visitors can explore offerings from more than 80 producers from Tuscany, Umbria, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio, with over 400 labels available for tasting, alongside masterclasses, talks, DJ sets, live music, and a street food area. Free admission, with tastings managed via a convenient token system.

Sangiovese takes center stage in San Giovanni Valdarno

The Sangiovese Festival is a premier food and wine event celebrating the signature grape of Central Italy in the historic heart of San Giovanni Valdarno, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany. Launched in 2024, the event has rapidly grown into a landmark occasion for wine enthusiasts from the Valdarno region and beyond, successfully blending regional promotion, support for the wine supply chain, and the revitalization of public urban spaces.

Two squares, over 400 labels

The festival unfolds across Piazza Cavour and Piazza Masaccio, two of the most picturesque spots in the historic center. Here, over 80 producers from the four regions where Sangiovese is native—Tuscany, Umbria, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio—gather to showcase more than 400 labels for tasting and purchase. From Chianti to Orcia, and from Morellino to Sangiovese di Romagna, it is a comprehensive journey through the many expressions of one great grape variety.

More than just tastings

Beyond the tasting stands, the program features masterclasses led by experts, talks and wine discussions focused on responsible consumption, internationalization, and the wine industry, social tastings exploring international interpretations of the grape, as well as live podcasts, DJ sets, and live music. In Piazza Masaccio, a dedicated food truck area offers high-quality local products and street food from lunch through dinner.

A conscious and accessible event

Admission to the festival is free: tastings are accessed via tokens, while wine glasses are provided with a small deposit. The event also champions sustainability, rewarding those who travel to San Giovanni Valdarno by train with a complimentary tasting token. Organized by the Municipality of San Giovanni Valdarno in collaboration with Confcommercio Firenze-Arezzo, with the support of the Tuscany Region, the Province of Arezzo, and the Arezzo-Siena Chamber of Commerce, the Sangiovese Festival has become one of the most popular wine events of the Tuscan spring, drawing over 20,000 visitors.
