About Sangano a Mille

Sangano a Mille is a community hiking event held every spring in Sangano, at the gateway to the Val Sangone in the Province of Turin. Organized by the local Pro Loco, this walk leads participants to the Prese hamlet and the summit of Mount Pietraborga at 926 meters, offering a day that blends nature, tradition, and conviviality. The meeting point is on Via delle Prese, featuring a mass at the chapel and an outdoor lunch to round off the experience.

A hike in the heart of the Val Sangone

Some events capture the spirit of a town better than words ever could: Sangano a Mille is one of them. Every year, as spring arrives, the town of Sangano—a small community on the western outskirts of Turin, overlooking the Val Sangone in the Province of Turin and the heart of Piedmont—gathers for a large collective hike. It is not a race, but an opportunity to discover (or rediscover) local trails while climbing together toward the mountain that overlooks the town.

From the Prese to the summit of Mount Pietraborga

The route starts from the Prese di Sangano hamlet and climbs up to the peak of Mount Pietraborga at an altitude of 926 meters. It is a moderately challenging walk that rewards those who take it on with sweeping views over the Turin plains and the Cottian Alps. Due to the elevation gain and the nature of the trail, the organizers note that it is not suitable for very young children, who must always be accompanied by an adult.

Tradition, faith, and community

Sangano a Mille is more than just a hike: the route includes a stop at the Cippo de Vitis and, higher up, a mass at the Prese chapel, a heartfelt moment that weaves together the hiking experience with spiritual and community values. After midday, the day concludes with an outdoor lunch: participants can bring their own packed lunch or enjoy the barbecue organized at the Prese.

An event by the Pro Loco

The event is organized by the Pro Loco Sangano, which has turned this march into one of the most anticipated dates on the local calendar. Participation is free, and the outdoor event is postponed in case of rain or bad weather: the mountain sets the pace, and Sangano knows how to wait.
