The patronal feast that kicks off the summer season in the districts of Pantelleria

The San Vito Festival is held every year on June 15th in the San Vito district, a small rural hamlet on the island of Pantelleria, in the province of Trapani. Located about 242 meters above sea level and just over three kilometers from the main town, it marks the first of the patronal feasts that define the summer of the island's districts—a calendar of celebrations that stretches from mid-June through autumn, touching every corner of the island.
The religious heart of the day is the Church of San Vito, a building with ancient roots dating back to the 16th century. In the late afternoon, the faithful gather for the recitation of the Rosary and Holy Mass in honor of the martyr saint. This spiritual core is central to the identity of this farming community, whose inhabitants are affectionately known as santuvitióti.
Once the religious ceremonies conclude, the festival takes on a joyful, secular tone. The evening continues with a convivial gathering featuring gastronomic tastings, live music, and, above all, the traditional dance, which is deeply cherished by the locals. The festival serves as a perfect opportunity to pass this popular practice on to younger generations and visitors alike, fostering an atmosphere of cheer that unites the entire community.
Described as "a simple yet deeply felt and lived-in celebration," the San Vito festival is above all a moment of connection. It is organized by the historic Circolo Unione Agricoltori San Vito, in collaboration with the Associazione Barbacane and under the patronage of the Municipality of Pantelleria. For those wishing to discover the most authentic soul of the island, far from the usual tourist routes, this is the ideal occasion to explore the history and traditions of the Pantescan hinterland.
Situated within the Pantelleria Island National Park, a UNESCO-recognized landscape heritage site, the San Vito district preserves the rural architecture of the dammusi and the culture of the "alberello" (head-trained) vine, which is also recognized as an intangible heritage of humanity. The San Vito Festival is the first milestone of a summer rich in events, from the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul to the Wine Festival, the Cappero Fest, and finally the Feast of San Fortunato, which closes the season in autumn.
The 2026 edition of the San Vito Festival in Pantelleria does not yet have an official program. According to tradition, the festival takes place every year around June 15th in the San Vito district and serves as the first patronal feast of the island's summer cycle. The usual program alternates between the religious aspect, with the Rosary and Holy Mass in the historic church of San Vito, and an evening convivial moment with gastronomic tastings, live music, and dancing. Details for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers closer to the event date.
The festival takes place in the San Vito district, a hamlet in the hinterland of the island of Pantelleria (TP), at the Church of San Vito, approximately 3 km from the town center.
Pantelleria can be reached by plane (Pantelleria Airport, with connections to Trapani and Palermo) or by ferry/hydrofoil from the port of Trapani. On the island, the San Vito district can be reached by car or local transport from the town center.
Participation is free and open to all residents and visitors.
