The patronal festival of Villesse between the challenges of the Plaza and Porciaria districts
Every year, around August 16th, Villesse celebrates its patron saint with San Rocco in Festa, one of the most cherished events of the summer in the lower Isonzo plain. The festival combines religious tradition with the purely local tradition of the challenge between the two districts into which the community has always been ideally divided: Plaza and Porciaria, who compete in races and games, infusing the event with a healthy spirit of local pride.
For several days, the square transforms into a large meeting place: the food stalls open in the late afternoon, from 5:30 PM, offering traditional Friulian dishes, while every evening there are free concerts and dance nights with orchestras and musical groups. There are also tombola (bingo), activities and shows for children, and the traditional scampanadors, the bell ringers who accompany the festival.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Villesse with the support of the Municipality, the San Rocco festival is the time when the entire town comes together, amidst devotion, fun, and conviviality. The rivalry between Plaza and Porciaria, experienced with humour and participation, is the distinctive feature of an event that continues to keep the identity of Villesse alive in the heart of the province of Gorizia.
For 2026, the patronal festival is expected in mid-August, around the date of San Rocco (August 16th). The formula remains the tried and tested one: the challenge between the Plaza and Porciaria districts, food stalls in the late afternoon, free concerts and dance nights, as well as tombola and activities for children. The precise dates will be announced by the Pro Loco of Villesse.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks.
Based on previous editions, the festival includes:
How to get there: Villesse is located along the A4 (Villesse exit) and A34 motorways, in a strategic position in the lower Isonzo area, between Gorizia and Monfalcone.
Admission: free entry; free concerts, paid food and drinks at the stalls.
Accommodation: accommodation facilities in Gorizia, Gradisca d'Isonzo, and nearby towns.
