About San Nicolò Festival

Every December 6th, Pozza di Fassa celebrates its patron saint with the San Nicolò Festival, one of the most beloved events in the Val di Fassa. The day begins with a parade by the Mùsega de Poza band from the San Nicolò chapel to the parish church, followed by Holy Mass and culminating in the arrival of Saint Nicholas, laden with gifts for the children. Mulled wine, grostoi, a traditional lunch, a raffle, concerts, and dancing bring the events pavilion to life until late, in an atmosphere of authentic Ladin tradition.

The patronal feast of Pozza di Fassa

December 6th is a special date for Pozza di Fassa, a village in the municipality of San Giovanni di Fassa-Sèn Jan, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). It is the feast day of Saint Nicholas, the town's patron saint, which the community has celebrated for generations with its Festival: a heartfelt and popular event that blends religious observance with local festivities, involving both young and old in a full day of activities.

A Ladin tradition in the heart of Val di Fassa

The San Nicolò Festival is deeply rooted in the valley's Ladin culture. The morning opens with the parade of the Mùsega de Poza band, which marches from the San Nicolò chapel to the parish church of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice, where Holy Mass is celebrated in honor of the patron saint. In the afternoon, the moment most awaited by children arrives: the arrival of Saint Nicholas with gifts. In the Fassa tradition, the saint is often accompanied by angels and surrounded by Krampus—the masked figures with dark faces, long horns, and large bells that are part of Alpine Christmas folklore.

Flavors, music, and community

The festivities unfold around these rituals. In Piaza de Comun, mulled wine and grostoi (traditional fried pastries) are served, while the events pavilion hosts a lunch featuring typical valley dishes. The afternoon is dedicated to children's entertainment, the prize-giving ceremony, and the San Nicolò raffle, followed by a concert by the Mùsega de Poza. The evening continues with dinner, music, and dancing, keeping the festive spirit alive until late.

An event for the whole valley

Organized by Enjoy Pozza, the San Nicolò Festival is much more than a patronal feast: it is an occasion for the Pozza community to come together, for families to share local flavors and traditions, and for visitors to discover the authentic soul of the Val di Fassa at the beginning of winter, when the Dolomites are blanketed in snow and the villages prepare for Christmas.

San Nicolò Festival — edition 2026

The San Nicolò Festival returns to Pozza di Fassa to celebrate the town's patron saint. Dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers: the festival is traditionally held on December 6th, Saint Nicholas' Day, featuring the Mùsega de Poza band parade, Holy Mass, the saint's arrival with gifts for children, a raffle, a concert, and an evening of music and dancing at the events pavilion.

The detailed program for the 2026 edition of the San Nicolò Festival in Pozza di Fassa has not yet been published by the organizers. The patronal feast is traditionally held on December 6th, Saint Nicholas' Day, and follows the established format of previous years: a morning parade of the Mùsega de Poza towards the parish church, Holy Mass, mulled wine and grostoi in Piaza de Comun, a traditional lunch, children's entertainment, the arrival of Saint Nicholas with gifts, a raffle, a band concert, and, in the evening, dinner with music and dancing at the events pavilion.
