Open-theme painting and drawing competition and exhibition
The San Maurizio Canavese Biennial is a celebration of the visual arts held in San Maurizio Canavese, a town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. Promoted by Unitre San Maurizio Canavese (University of the Third Age), the event was created to provide visibility to local artists, workshop students, and anyone with a passion for painting and drawing.
At the heart of the event is an open-theme painting and drawing competition: participants may submit their work without subject restrictions, allowing for complete creative freedom. A jury evaluates the entries and selects the most deserving works, which are then honored during a public ceremony. The biennial format brings a regular rhythm to the town's cultural life, with each edition featuring fresh artistic perspectives.
Selected works are displayed at the Casa Marchini Ramello Art and Cultural Center, located at Via Edoardo Bertone 17, the town's prestigious exhibition venue. The exhibition remains open to the public for several days with free admission, offering residents and visitors the chance to explore paintings and drawings across various techniques and styles.
The Biennial is a direct expression of the work of Unitre San Maurizio Canavese, an association that offers courses, workshops, lectures, and cultural outings for adults throughout the academic year. The competition is one of the moments when this vibrant energy opens up to the community, blending education, social engagement, and the promotion of local artistic heritage.
Located at the gates of Turin in the Canavese region, San Maurizio Canavese retains a compact urban layout and a strong sense of community. The Biennial is part of a calendar of events that enliven the town throughout the year and provides a wonderful opportunity to discover the village, its cultural spaces, and the warm hospitality of the Piedmont region.
The second edition of the Biennial was held from May 29 to June 8, 2026. The awards ceremony for the competition entries took place on Tuesday, June 2, at 4:30 PM at the Casa Marchini Ramello Art and Cultural Center, Via Edoardo Bertone 17.
Following this, from June 2 to June 8, the works remained on public display, generally in the afternoon from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, with free admission. The open-theme painting and drawing competition was promoted by Unitre San Maurizio Canavese.
