About San Marco Festival

For over forty years, in the gardens of Villa Rinascita, the San Marco Festival has brought the Trieste community together around local cuisine: ćevapčići, sausages, spit-roasted chicken, calamari, and polenta, accompanied by live music every evening. A neighborhood festival lasting weeks, between spring and summer.

An over-forty-year tradition

The San Marco Festival is one of Trieste's longest-standing popular festivals: a tradition that has lasted for over forty years, organized by the Parrocchia San Marco Evangelista (Saint Mark the Evangelist Parish) in the gardens of Villa Rinascita, on Via dei Modiano. An eagerly awaited event that, spread over several weekends between spring and summer, brings together generations of Triestines.

Trieste's cuisine takes center stage

The heart of the festival is the local gastronomy: from grilled dishes with ćevapčići, sausages, wurstel, spit-roasted chicken, ombolo, cheese, and polenta, to fried calamari, fries, and battered vegetables, and finally desserts. Beer, wine, and the flavors of Central European and Adriatic traditions that blend into Julian cuisine are also available. The service includes indoor seating and takeaway options.

Music and conviviality every evening

Each evening is accompanied by live music, along with a charity raffle and a prize bingo, in a family-friendly festive atmosphere. The spacious grounds of Villa Rinascita, with its football field and parking, make the festival convenient and welcoming for families and groups.

The spirit of the neighborhood

More than just a gastronomic event, the San Marco Festival is a moment for the community: an opportunity to gather, support the parish's activities, and experience the neighborhood, in a Trieste made of popular traditions and outdoor dining.
