The patronal feast of Sover in the Cembra Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Lorenzo Festival is the most cherished summer event in Sover, a municipality in the upper Cembra Valley, in the province of Trento and in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The village, spread across the sunny slopes of Monte Frattoni at an altitude of over one thousand meters and surrounded by woods rising toward the Lagorai range, celebrates its patron saint, Saint Lawrence, whose feast day falls on August 10th. The parish church of San Lorenzo, which houses three exquisite Baroque wooden altars, is the spiritual hub around which this village celebration has revolved for generations.
The festival traditionally takes place over a weekend around August 10th. The religious aspect is marked by Holy Mass and a procession through the streets of the historic center, bringing together the entire community of Sover and its hamlets, Montesover and Piscine. Alongside the devotional dimension, the festival thrives on conviviality: in the evening, lights are lit under the marquees, the kitchen opens, and the village transforms into a meeting place for residents, vacationers, and hikers.
The beating heart of the festival is the traditional cuisine, prepared by the Sover Alpini Group and local volunteers. The stoves produce classic mountain dishes:
The evenings are accompanied by live music and dancing that enliven the square until late. The timing of the festival, close to August 10th, links it to the night of Saint Lawrence and the Perseid meteor shower: from the meadows and viewpoints around the village, far from city lights, the Lagorai sky offers an ideal setting to wait for shooting stars.
Visiting Sover during the festival also means discovering an authentic corner of Trentino: the houses with yellow tile roofs produced in the kilns of Molina di Fiemme, the ancient tradition of woodworking dating back to the 17th century, and the trails that climb from the hamlets into the woods toward Malga Vernera and the Lagorai group. The San Lorenzo Festival remains one of the best opportunities to experience the hospitality and traditions of the Cembra Valley.
