Three days of festivities in the village of Piane di Serravalle Sesia, in the Valsesia valley
The San Giacomo Festival is the most anticipated summer event in the hamlet of Piane (Piane Sesia), located in the municipality of Serravalle Sesia, in the province of Vercelli and the heart of the Valsesia valley, in Piedmont. Dedicated to the community's patron saint, the event is organized by the Comitato Carnevale Piane, the association that keeps local traditions alive throughout the year and brings this long weekend of popular celebration to life in the summer.
For three days, the village fills with long tables, food stalls, and musical evenings: the formula is the tried-and-tested one of Valsesia village festivals, where local cuisine meets cheerfulness and the joy of being together. Under the marquees, you can taste traditional local dishes, while the evenings are marked by music and entertainment for all ages, in a familiar and welcoming atmosphere that has always been the hallmark of this festival.
The highlight of Sunday is the Vespa Rally, which concludes the festival by combining a passion for vintage scooters with the conviviality of the village. The rally involves participants meeting in the morning at Piazza Libertà in Serravalle Sesia, followed by a departure for a scenic tour through the roads of the Valsesia valley and, upon return, a collective lunch at the San Giacomo Festival in Piane. It is an event that attracts enthusiasts from all over the area and gives the final day a unique flair.
The festival has its roots in devotion to the patron saint: the hamlet of Piane preserves the parish church of San Giacomo, a 17th-century building that houses a valuable carved, gilded, and painted wooden altar. The bond between the community and its saint is the origin of this celebration, which, year after year, renews the village's identity and the pride of its inhabitants.
Participating in the San Giacomo Festival is also an opportunity to discover the Valsesia, the greenest valley in Italy, at the foot of Monte Rosa. Serravalle Sesia, the gateway to the valley, offers a landscape of mountains, trails, historic villages, and a strong food and wine tradition, making this summer festival a small concentrate of Piedmontese authenticity.
The 2026 San Giacomo Festival is held in Piane (Serravalle Sesia) from Friday, July 24th to Sunday, July 26th. The weekend features evenings of great music and food stalls with traditional Valsesia dishes, in a village festival atmosphere managed by the Comitato Carnevale Piane.
The final day is dedicated to the Vespa Rally: participants meet at 8:30 AM in Piazza Libertà in Serravalle Sesia, departing around 10:15 AM for a scenic tour in the Valsesia valley, followed by a collective lunch at the festival in Piane upon return. An event open to vintage scooter enthusiasts and anyone curious.
