The culture of the Turin Book Fair at Palazzo Grosso
The Salone del Libro Off is the literary festival that every spring transforms Riva presso Chieri, a small town in the Province of Turin in Piedmont, into a crossroads of words, books, and encounters. Born as a local offshoot of the Turin International Book Fair, the event brings some of the most appreciated names in Italian literature, history, and journalism to the halls of the historic Palazzo Grosso, bringing the local public closer to a cultural event of national significance.
For six days, Palazzo Grosso hosts a packed program of presentations and dialogues with writers. The days alternate between novels, historical essays, and books for young readers, offering the public the opportunity to listen to the authors and delve into their works in an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. Voices that have enlivened the festival include writers and historians such as Carlo Greppi, Gianni Oliva, Margherita Oggero, Marcello Simoni, Daniela Garavini, Corrado Brignolo, Carola Benedetto, and the journalist and correspondent Domenico Quirico.
The Salone del Libro Off is not just about presentations: the festival pairs words with music and visual arts. Among the most anticipated events is the classical music concert by pianist Anna Lucia Trimboli, while for the duration of the event, the halls of Palazzo Grosso host a watercolor exhibition by Luisella Cottino.
Organized by the Municipality of Riva presso Chieri in collaboration with the Turin Book Fair, the event features free admission and represents a precious opportunity for the area: it brings readers of all ages closer to culture, enhances a historic palace, and places a small Piedmontese town on the circuit of the most important Italian publishing event. A proposal that confirms the deep bond between Piedmont and the world of books.
