The Salamura festival in Salignano, in the heart of the Capo di Leuca
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Salento summer, the Salamura Festival returns to brighten the streets of Salignano, a village in the municipality of Castrignano del Capo, in the province of Lecce. The event, traditionally held in mid-August, celebrates a humble dish that defines the local identity: salamura. It is one of those village festivals that captures the most authentic soul of Salento, where fine food, music, and conviviality intertwine during the August evenings.
Salamura is an ancient recipe from Salento's peasant cuisine made with roasted peppers, seasoned with ripe cherry tomatoes, onions, extra virgin olive oil, and salt. It is a simple dish born from the ingenuity of farmers, best enjoyed with the essential frise, homemade bread, or local toasted bread. The entire festival revolves around this preparation: food stalls serve it in abundance, alongside other traditional flavors from the Capo di Leuca area.
The festival spans two days, with food stalls opening in the evening. In addition to salamura, visitors can savor grilled meats, seasonal vegetables, typical Salento products, and excellent local wine. The tastings are accompanied by live music, with performances that bring the square to life and draw on the popular repertoire and traditional rhythms of the area. The atmosphere is that of a familiar and relaxed small village, far from the crowds of larger events.
Salignano is a small village that retains the charm of the Salento countryside, dominated by its historic watchtower. It is part of the municipality of Castrignano del Capo, which also includes the villages of Giuliano di Lecce and Leuca. We are located at the extreme tip of Puglia, in the Capo di Leuca, where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet: a territory rich in traditions, patronal feasts, and food festivals that punctuate the entire summer.
The Salamura Festival is part of the busy calendar of summer events in southern Salento and is easily accessible for those spending their holidays between Santa Maria di Leuca, Torre Vado, and the nearby seaside towns. It is the perfect opportunity to discover a little-known dish deeply rooted in tradition, during an evening dedicated to taste and simplicity.
