The patronal feast of Paglieta, blending devotion and major concerts in Abruzzo
The Saints Vincenzo and Egidio Festival is the patronal celebration of Paglieta, a town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, nestled in the hills of the lower Sangro Valley, just a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast. The event honors the two titular saints of the parish church dedicated to Saint Vincenzo Ferrer and Saint Egidio the Abbot, a spiritual landmark for the local community.
The festival has always intertwined the religious dimension with civil and popular traditions: liturgical functions and processions are accompanied by social gatherings, cultural initiatives, and performances that bring the historic center and the town streets to life, attracting residents and visitors from neighboring towns.
Alongside sacred rites, the festival is an opportunity to rediscover the local identity. Paglieta lies along ancient routes linked to transhumance and the sheep tracks (tratturi) that for centuries connected Abruzzo to Puglia: themes that have been highlighted in recent years through cultural meetings and events included in the festival program, testifying to the deep bond between the community and its pastoral history.
One of the most anticipated elements of the festival is the free musical evening on Via Caduti di Nassiriya, in the heart of the historic center. The stage set up for the occasion has hosted artists capable of attracting audiences from the entire area, transforming the patronal celebration into a true landmark event for the entire Frentano district.
More than just a religious anniversary, the Saints Vincenzo and Egidio Festival represents a meeting point for the entire community of Paglieta: families, associations, and volunteers collaborate on the organization, while the village streets fill with lights, stalls, and people. It is the ideal occasion to discover an authentic corner of Abruzzo, characterized by hospitality, tradition, and the warm welcome typical of the towns in the province of Chieti.
On April 25, 2026, the Saints Vincenzo and Egidio Festival treated Paglieta to an evening of live music with a free concert by Equipe 84, considered by critics to be the Italian answer to the Beatles.
Starting at 9:00 PM, on Via Caduti di Nassiriya, the band revisited the greatest hits of their repertoire, from the most famous tracks of the beat period to the classics of singer-songwriter music linked to their collaborations with Lucio Battisti and Mogol. The event, with free admission, was part of the town's patronal festivities, attracting audiences from across the province of Chieti.
Events are held in the historic center of Paglieta (CH), specifically on Via Caduti di Nassiriya for evening shows. The town is located in the lower Sangro Valley, in Abruzzo.
By car via the A14 motorway, take the Val di Sangro exit, then follow the signs for Paglieta. The reference train station is the one in the Frentano area along the Adriatic line.
Concerts and main events of the patronal festival are free of charge.
