About Saint-Roch Emarèse

Every mid-August, the hamlet of Erésaz, in Emarèse, Aosta Valley, celebrates its patron saint, Saint Roch, with the Saint-Roch Festival, combined with the Brossa Sagra (Sagra della Brossa), dedicated to the typical Aosta Valley dairy product served with polenta. Four days of sports, gastronomy, music, and dancing organized by the Pro Loco of Emarèse: from the Tsan Trophy to the Emaresotto market, from the patron saint's procession to the evening dances, and featuring Aosta Valley cuisine like polenta with brossa.

The Patronal Festival of Erésaz

In mid-August, the hamlet of Erésaz, in the municipality of Emarèse (Province of Aosta), experiences its most anticipated moment of the year with the Saint-Roch Festival, in honor of Saint Roch, the village's patron saint. It's a deeply cherished village festival, capable of drawing residents, holidaymakers, and visitors from all over the Lower Aosta Valley, organized by the Pro Loco of Emarèse.

The Brossa Sagra

The patronal festival is accompanied by the Brossa Sagra, dedicated to one of the most typical products of Aosta Valley cheesemaking tradition. Brossa is a soft-ripened dairy product made from whey, with a delicate flavor, which once nourished shepherds in the alpine pastures and is now a delicacy: it is best enjoyed in the famous pairing of polenta and brossa, the star of the food stall alongside polenta concia, grilled meats, and seupa.

Sports, Procession, and Evening Dances

The program blends sport and tradition: the Tsan Trophy — an ancient Aosta Valley game similar to alpine baseball — opens the festival with youth groups, followed by the palet tournament and, on Ferragosto (August 15th), the green volley tournament. There's also the Emaresotto market with local crafts and products, the procession and mass in honor of Saint Roch, comedy shows, and free evening dances with local orchestras and bands.

A Tradition of the Aosta Valley

The Saint Roch Festival and the Brossa Sagra tell the story of the identity of Emarèse and the plateau overlooking Saint-Vincent and Châtillon: a small municipality in the Aosta Valley Region that, around its patron saint and an ancient dairy product, renews the bond between the community, the mountains, and its flavors every summer.
