The patronal feast of the San Focà district, blending faith, tradition, and major concerts
The Saint Joseph the Worker Festival is the patronal feast of the San Focà district in Priolo Gargallo, in the Province of Syracuse. It is traditionally held in early May, coinciding with the liturgical feast of Saint Joseph the Worker (May 1st), the day the Church dedicates to labor and the carpenter saint of Nazareth. It is a highly anticipated event for the Priolo community, combining religious observance with popular entertainment.
The religious heart of the festival is the solemn Eucharistic concelebration, presided over by the Archbishop of Syracuse, and the procession of the Saint's statue through the streets of the San Focà district. The procession is accompanied by the notes of the "Città di Priolo Gargallo" marching band and concludes, upon returning to the parish, with an evocative display of torches and colorful lights. The reference parish is Saint Joseph the Worker, located on Via Salso.
In recent years, the festival has been enriched with a high-profile entertainment lineup designed to engage families and young people. The district squares transform into an open-air stage with free concerts, DJ sets, and evenings dedicated to the music that has made entire generations dance.
During the festivities, the district hosts a large food area featuring traditional Sicilian specialties—from grilled meats to fresh fried fish, pizza, and local products—alongside a "non-food" area with craft and gift stalls. The initiative also stems from the desire of the Priolo Gargallo municipal administration and the Pro Loco to showcase the city's economic and productive fabric.
The Saint Joseph the Worker Festival is now an event that attracts visitors from across the southeastern Sicily area. To facilitate access, the Municipality organizes a free shuttle service to the event area. It is the ideal opportunity to discover Priolo Gargallo and its connection to the world of work, in a festival that blends the sacred and the profane in the typical spirit of Sicilian patronal feasts.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Joseph the Worker Festival brought the San Focà district of Priolo Gargallo (SR) to life on Friday, May 1st and Saturday, May 2nd, with a program that intertwined faith, flavor, and great music. The religious portion featured the solemn Eucharistic concelebration presided over by the Archbishop of Syracuse, Monsignor Francesco Lomanto, and the procession of the Saint's statue through the district streets, accompanied by the "Città di Priolo Gargallo" band and concluded with a display of torches and colorful lights.
The entertainment side featured Radio 105 Mania, with artists who made the squares dance to the rhythm of 90s and 2000s hits, and the concert by Neapolitan rapper Clementino, a true draw for the younger audience. A large food area with Sicilian specialties and an area dedicated to crafts were also present.
