The patronal feast of the Villa Tucci district, blending faith, tradition, and community
In the heart of the rolling Abruzzo hills, just a few kilometres from the Adriatic coast, the Villa Tucci district — one of the hamlets of the municipality of Crecchio, in the province of Chieti — dedicates a grand day of celebration to its patron saint, Saint Joseph, every year. The event takes place on March 19th, the day the Catholic Church honours the foster father of Jesus, patron saint of workers and fathers.
The heart of the festival is the small Church of Saint Joseph, one of the oldest sacred buildings in the area, around which the local community has gathered for generations. Villa Tucci is situated in one of the flatlands of the Crecchio municipality, a village ranked among the most beautiful in Italy, nestled between the Maiella mountains and the sea.
The festivities follow a rhythm dictated by tradition: they begin at dawn with fireworks, continue with religious celebrations and a solemn procession through the village streets accompanied by a brass band, and culminate in the evening with live music and a final pyrotechnic show. It is a festival where the religious dimension — the masses, the procession, and the act of entrustment of fathers and the entire community — coexists with the civil and recreational side, featuring shows for children, concerts, and moments of conviviality.
The organization is managed by the Villa Tucci Recreational Club, under the patronage of the Municipality of Crecchio: a collective effort that renews a ritual every year capable of uniting faith, identity, and participation, attracting not only the residents of the district but also visitors from the nearby towns of the Teatino hinterland.
Those visiting Villa Tucci for the Saint Joseph Festival will find an authentic Abruzzese village feast, far from the major tourist circuits: an opportunity to discover a community that keeps its traditions alive and to experience the warm, genuine atmosphere of the Abruzzo districts, amidst devotion, music, and fireworks.
The 2026 festivities confirmed the richness of the Villa Tucci tradition, alternating religious moments and popular events throughout the day. The morning solemn mass was presided over by Archbishop Emidio Cipollone, while in the evening, the procession through the district streets involved the entire community in an act of entrustment for fathers. The festival concluded with a concert by the tribute band 'Rino Live' and a final pyrotechnic show.
