The food and wine festival in the historic center of Loreto Aprutino
Sagra & Profano is one of the most anticipated summer events in Loreto Aprutino, a village in the hilly hinterland of the province of Pescara, in Abruzzo. After several years of hiatus, the festival has been revived by the municipal administration, reclaiming its role as a major popular event capable of drawing locals and tourists from the entire Vestina area. For four days, the historic center comes alive every evening in a whirlwind of flavors, culture, and tradition.
The heart of the festival is the grand culinary itinerary winding through the village streets and squares, where every corner offers a different specialty. Stalls serve typical Abruzzese dishes, with several spots having become landmarks of the event:
Sagra & Profano is not just about food. The trail includes craft exhibitions, with Piazza Mazzini dedicated to local artisans, the rediscovery of ancient trades in the alleys of the village, and art exhibitions set up in public spaces. During the evenings, museums remain open, offering visitors the chance to discover the cultural heritage of Loreto Aprutino. Adding to the atmosphere are street art and light art installations that illuminate the squares and corners of the historic center.
The most anticipated moment is the Notte Bianca on Saturday, when the village stays lively until late with live music and DJ sets. The restored Fontana Vecchia, the historic "Funticill'", becomes one of the main meeting points of the evening, featuring shows, entertainment, and the participation of local businesses.
The event also dedicates plenty of space to children, with entertainment and shows accompanying the evenings. The intimate atmosphere of the village, the traditional flavors, and the rich program make Sagra & Profano an appointment that perfectly blends gastronomy, culture, and fun in the heart of the hilly Abruzzo region.
The 2026 edition of Sagra & Profano is scheduled from July 23rd to 26th in the historic center of Loreto Aprutino. Once again this year, the village comes alive every evening with a food and wine trail across the squares: arrosticini at the foot of Castello Chiola, local wines and oils in Piazza del Mercato Vecchio, traditional dishes in Piazza Garibaldi, and many other tasting spots throughout the center.
Alongside the gastronomy, the program features craft exhibitions with Piazza Mazzini dedicated to local artisans, the rediscovery of ancient trades, art exhibitions, open museums, and children's entertainment, while street art and light art illuminate the evenings. The highlight remains the Saturday White Night, with music and a DJ set by Claudio Di Rocco in the area of the Fontana Vecchia ("Funticill'"), managed by Caffetteria Millelire.
The event takes place in the historic center of Loreto Aprutino (PE), with events spread across Piazza Garibaldi, Piazza Mazzini, Piazza del Mercato Vecchio, and the village alleys.
