About Cantine dei Bertoniani

Le Cantine dei Bertoniani transforms the village of Montebello di Bertona, in the province of Pescara, into a food and wine trail winding through the historic streets. Ancient cellars open their doors for tastings of Abruzzo wines and local specialties, accompanied by craft markets, food stalls, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, music, and entertainment. An autumn event that blends tradition, conviviality, and the flavors of the land at the foot of the Gran Sasso.

Le Cantine dei Bertoniani: Autumn in the heart of the village

Le Cantine dei Bertoniani is a food and wine event that brings Montebello di Bertona, a small village in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, to life every autumn. For two or three days, the ancient cellars in the historic center open to the public, turning the village alleys into a gourmet itinerary featuring wine, crafts, and traditional cuisine. The initiative, often paired with the Sapori d'autunno (Autumn Flavors) festival, is promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with local associations and the Pro Loco.

A journey through historic cellars

The charm of the event lies in its setting: old cellars carved beneath the houses, once used for storing wine and provisions, come back to life as meeting and tasting spaces. While strolling through the village streets, visitors can sample wines from numerous Abruzzo producers, including past participants such as Marramiero, Ciavolich, Contesa, Tenuta I Fauri, Cantina Tollo, and other local labels.

Abruzzo's autumn flavors

Alongside wine, seasonal gastronomy takes center stage. Stalls offer traditional dishes prepared with local seasonal products, while the air fills with the scents of vino cotto (cooked wine) and roasted chestnuts, symbols of the Apennine autumn. There are also craft markets featuring original creations and unique pieces that showcase local craftsmanship.

Music, atmosphere, and hospitality

The festival is enriched by music and entertainment that accompany the evenings, creating a warm and convivial atmosphere among the illuminated alleys of the village. The organizers also provide covered areas so the event can proceed smoothly even in case of bad weather.

Montebello di Bertona and the Gran Sasso

Located on a hill on the eastern slopes of the Gran Sasso d'Italia, within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, Montebello di Bertona is a village of great scenic charm, a short distance from both the Adriatic Sea and the mountains. Le Cantine dei Bertoniani is the perfect opportunity to discover this corner of inland Abruzzo, its wines, and its hospitality.

Cantine dei Bertoniani — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Le Cantine dei Bertoniani in Montebello di Bertona is expected in autumn, traditionally between late October and early November. As of now, the official dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers. As in previous years, the event is expected to feature tastings of Abruzzo wines in the village's historic cellars, food stalls, craft markets, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, music, and entertainment.

Le Cantine dei Bertoniani returns to Montebello di Bertona in 2026 with its customary autumn appointment dedicated to wine, local flavors, and crafts. The dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released: it is recommended to check for updates on the Municipality's channels and those of the organizing associations closer to the event.
