The September festival of the hamlet of Porchera, between devotion and charity
In the hamlet of Porchera, in the municipality of Olgiate Molgora in the province of Lecco, the Festa della Madonna Addolorata - popularly known as Sagra di Porchera - is the most anticipated event of September. Organized by the parish of San Zeno, it combines Marian devotion with a popular festival and charity dimension, suitable for families and children.
The religious heart is the veneration of Our Lady of Sorrows. The program includes the evening rosary with the San Zeno Choir School, the presentation of the statue of the Madonna through the streets of Porchera, and on Sunday, the solemn mass followed by the procession with the statue of the Addolorata. These are moments that involve the entire community of the hamlet.
Alongside the religious rites, the sagra offers a football tournament in memory of figures dear to the community, activities for children (bouncy castles, sweets, cotton candy), musical evenings with concerts, and an open-air kitchen with typical dishes, pizzeria, and bar on Via Cesare Cantù. The charitable nature of the initiative, also linked to the Casa dei Ragazzi, makes it a solidarity festival.
The sagra has a long history - recent editions have surpassed number 38 - and is one of those events that keep the identity of a hamlet alive. The parish of San Zeno and the volunteers of Olgiate Molgora renew it every year in the second half of September.
In 2026, the hamlet of Porchera will again celebrate the Madonna Addolorata in September, under the organization of the parish of San Zeno. The sagra confirms its tried-and-tested formula: moments of devotion (rosary, presentation and procession of the statue, solemn mass) are intertwined with the football tournament, activities for children, musical evenings, and open-air dining with typical dishes, pizzeria, and bar.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with dates and times, will be published by the parish of San Zeno and on the Sagra di Porchera channels. The typical structure, following recent editions, includes:
Definitive dates and times on the parish channels.
The procession of the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows through the streets of Porchera and the sagra's open-air dining are the most characteristic moments.
