The Festival of San Rocco in Brianza

Every year, around August 16th, the Municipality of Molteno, in the Province of Lecco, celebrates San Rocco with a sagra that has become a regular fixture of the Brianza Ferragosto. The heart of the festival is the San Giovanni Bosco oratory, on Via Stazione, which opens its doors to the entire community for four days.

Food, Games, and Conviviality

From the afternoon, the oratory welcomes visitors with a bar service, traditional card games — briscola, scopa, scala 40 — and a charity raffle. In the evening, the kitchen opens, offering hot dishes and specialties that change daily: from the Ferragosto lunch to the 'verzàta' with polenta, from Sunday risotto to the closing dinner with mixed fried food.

Music and Religious Tradition

The evenings are enlivened by live music, with orchestras and artists taking turns on the oratory's stage. The religious dimension is also present: in the days leading up to the festival, a triduum of prayer is held in the church of San Rocco, in Piazza Risorgimento, while on the saint's day, several masses are celebrated. The festival concludes with the traditional tombola (bingo) and the lottery draw.

A Festival for the Whole Community

Organized by the oratory with the involvement of the parishes of Molteno, Sirone, and Bulciago, the Sagra di San Rocco is much more than a food festival: it's the moment when the town comes together, across different generations, around the values of conviviality and tradition. A simple and genuine event, far from major tourist attractions, that preserves the soul of the Lecchese Brianza.
