It is a famous vegetable pie of local tradition, prepared with chard, pumpkin, leeks, cheese, and oil, according to a recipe passed down through generations.
A sagra with a long history
The Sagra della Scherpada is one of the longest-running festivals in the Val di Magra: in 2025, it celebrated its fiftieth edition. Organized by the Folkloristic Committee of Ponzano Superiore, it takes place on the last weekends of August at the village's sports center, with food stalls, live music evenings, and traditional dishes alongside the absolute star.
A village worth the trip
The sagra is also an opportunity to discover Ponzano Superiore, an ancient village perched on the hills overlooking the Val di Magra, with its medieval layout and panoramic views. A free shuttle service connects the La Fabbrica shopping center to the festival venue, making it easy to attend one of the most cherished sagre in the area.
Sagra della Scherpada — edition 2026
After the fiftieth edition in 2025, the Sagra della Scherpada returns on the last weekends of August 2026 in Ponzano Superiore. At the village's sports center, the Folkloristic Committee's stalls will offer the scherpada — the vegetable pie with chard, pumpkin, leeks, cheese, and oil — along with other traditional dishes, accompanied by live music evenings. The official 2026 dates will be announced by the organizers.
