Painters painting live in the square, for two weeks in August
La Calandriniana is one of the most characteristic artistic events of the summer in Sarzana (Province of La Spezia). Its peculiarity is simple and fascinating: painters paint live, on white canvas, directly in Piazza Calandrini, under the eyes of passers-by, from 6 PM until late at night, for about two weeks.
For those strolling through the historic center, the effect is like entering a large, widespread studio: every evening you can follow the evolution of the works, from the first stroke to the finished painting, in a direct dialogue between artists and the public. A format that makes art not a pre-packaged product, but a living process to be observed and shared.
With over forty years of history, La Calandriniana remains an anticipated event, capable of enhancing Piazza Calandrini and enriching Sarzana's summer calendar. It is part of the rich program of events that animate the historic center in August with art, markets, and culture.
The 2026 edition of La Calandriniana enlivens Piazza Calandrini from August 7th to 23rd. Every evening, from 6 PM until late at night, painters paint live on white canvas, allowing the public to follow the entire creative process. A format that, for over forty years, has made art a living and shared experience in the historic center of Sarzana.
By train: Sarzana station on the GenoaโLa SpeziaโPisa line. By car: A12 or A15, Sarzana exit. The exhibition takes place in Piazza Calandrini, in the historic center.
For about two weeks in August, from 6 PM until late at night. Free admission.
