The autumn of Valle Camonica in the village of rock engravings
The Sagra della Castagna is the festival that every October celebrates in Paspardo, a mountain village in Valle Camonica, in the province of Brescia, the fruit symbol of autumn. The event enlivens the historic centre of the town, with Piazza Umberto I as its epicentre, transforming the streets into a journey of flavours and traditions.
Along the stands, you can find local typical products and, of course, roasted chestnuts (caldarroste). The specialty that best tells the story of Paspardo is Pult e Lat, a traditional dish made from chestnut flour, a testament to simple mountain cuisine tied to the land. Tasting these flavours is the best way to get to know the gastronomic identity of Valle Camonica.
The festival is not just about food. Among the stalls, there is space for crafts and characteristic iron sculptures, while live music accompanies the festive days. A village atmosphere, welcoming and authentic, that attracts visitors from all over the valley.
Paspardo is one of the municipalities in Valle Camonica famous for its rock engravings, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which dot its slopes. Visiting the Sagra della Castagna is therefore also an opportunity to discover a village with a thousand-year history, where autumn traditions intertwine with a unique landscape and archaeological heritage.
The Sagra della Castagna 2026 returns to Paspardo in October, following the model of previous editions held on the third weekend of the month (the previous edition took place on October 19-20). The historic centre, around Piazza Umberto I, hosts stands with local typical products, roasted chestnuts, and the traditional Pult e Lat made from chestnut flour. Crafts, iron sculptures, and live music complete the festival. The precise date will be confirmed by the Municipality of Paspardo in the weeks prior.
The detailed program will be published by the Municipality of Paspardo in the weeks prior.
Paspardo is in Valle Camonica, in the province of Brescia, on the left-hand side of the Oglio river. You can reach it by car by going up the valley from Capo di Ponte; the nearest train station is Capo di Ponte, on the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo line.
The festival is held in October in the historic centre, around Piazza Umberto I. Free admission.
