Autumn in Val Trebbia

The Sagra della Castagna di Gorreto is one of the most beloved autumn events in Val Trebbia, the valley of the Ligurian Apennines that runs inland from Genoa. Gorreto, a small village along the Trebbia river, dedicates a festival to the chestnut – the symbolic fruit of these mountains – traditionally held on November 1st, All Saints' Day.

Roasted Chestnuts and Homemade Cakes

In the Municipal Gardens, stalls are filled with roasted chestnuts, homemade cakes, liqueurs, and chestnut-based specialities. It's an opportunity to taste and buy typical products from Val Trebbia, supporting local producers and bringing home the authentic flavours of the Apennine autumn.

Cake Competition and Music

Among the most cherished events is the homemade cake competition, showcasing the creativity and skill of the village women in preparing traditional and innovative desserts. The day is accompanied by music, making the festival even more lively.

A Charitable Festival

Organised by the Pro Loco Gorreto, the festival also has a charitable purpose: the proceeds are donated to charity. One more reason to participate in this community celebration, which combines the promotion of the Apennine Liguria region with the charitable spirit typical of small villages.
