The travelling chestnut festival in the streets of Borzonasca
Agricasta is the chestnut festival of Borzonasca, a mountain municipality in the province of Genoa, nestled within the Regional Natural Park of Aveto. Now in its twentieth edition, the event traditionally takes place on the first Sunday of October and transforms the village into a large travelling route dedicated to the symbolic fruit of autumn.
The heart of Agricasta is the gastronomic itinerary that winds through the streets of Borzonasca: tasting points with sweet and savoury peasant snacks, typical products, and, of course, roasted chestnuts, distributed free of charge to visitors. Along the route, you'll find exhibitors, markets, and stalls selling local products, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community.
The festival offers much more than just food: a mycology exhibition curated by the Aveto Park, art exhibitions, demonstrations of ancient crafts, the "tree of abundance", children's games, and puppet shows. For children and families, there are also the characteristic donkey rides in the Aveto Valley, while folk and dance music accompanies the day.
As a gateway to the Aveto Park, Borzonasca is a land of forests, trails, and ancient rural traditions. Agricasta, recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events 2026, celebrates this mountain identity and the culture of the chestnut, which has been a fundamental resource for the communities of the Genoese hinterland for centuries.
For 2026, Agricasta returns to liven up Borzonasca with its travelling festival dedicated to the chestnut. The gastronomic itinerary winds through the village streets with tasting points, peasant snacks, typical products, and roasted chestnuts distributed free of charge. The day includes the mycology exhibition curated by the Aveto Park, art exhibitions, ancient crafts, the "tree of abundance", children's games, puppet shows, donkey rides, and folk music. The precise date will be announced by the Municipality.
Borzonasca can be reached from the Chiavari (A12) motorway exit, heading up the Val Sturla towards the Aveto Park. The nearest train station is Chiavari.
The festival takes place on the first Sunday of October, from morning to evening. Free distribution of roasted chestnuts throughout the day. Precise dates for 2026 to be announced by the Municipality.
