About Agricasta

On the first Sunday of October, Borzonasca, in the Aveto Park, celebrates the chestnut with Agricasta, a travelling festival that enlivens the village streets with a grand gastronomic itinerary. Roasted chestnuts are distributed free of charge, along with peasant snacks, typical products, exhibitions, markets, and folk music accompanying visitors from point to point, amidst mycology exhibitions, art shows, and donkey rides in the Aveto Valley. Recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events 2026, it is one of the most characteristic autumn sagre (traditional festivals) in the hinterland of Genoa.

The chestnut takes centre stage in Borzonasca

Agricasta is the chestnut festival of Borzonasca, a mountain municipality in the province of Genoa, nestled within the Regional Natural Park of Aveto. Now in its twentieth edition, the event traditionally takes place on the first Sunday of October and transforms the village into a large travelling route dedicated to the symbolic fruit of autumn.

A gastronomic itinerary through the village streets

The heart of Agricasta is the gastronomic itinerary that winds through the streets of Borzonasca: tasting points with sweet and savoury peasant snacks, typical products, and, of course, roasted chestnuts, distributed free of charge to visitors. Along the route, you'll find exhibitors, markets, and stalls selling local products, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community.

Nature, culture, and traditions

The festival offers much more than just food: a mycology exhibition curated by the Aveto Park, art exhibitions, demonstrations of ancient crafts, the "tree of abundance", children's games, and puppet shows. For children and families, there are also the characteristic donkey rides in the Aveto Valley, while folk and dance music accompanies the day.

Borzonasca and the Aveto Park

As a gateway to the Aveto Park, Borzonasca is a land of forests, trails, and ancient rural traditions. Agricasta, recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events 2026, celebrates this mountain identity and the culture of the chestnut, which has been a fundamental resource for the communities of the Genoese hinterland for centuries.
