About Sagra dell'Acciaccata

The Sagra dell'Acciaccata is one of the longest-running sagre (food festivals) in the Amerino region: it takes place in Fornole, a hamlet of Amelia in the province of Terni, and celebrates the 'acciaccata', a flavourful Umbrian focaccia cooked over a wood fire and served with local cured meats. For over a week, the small village comes alive every evening with food stalls, live music, and festivities for all ages, amidst the rural traditions of southern Umbria.

The focaccia festival of Fornole

The Sagra dell'Acciaccata is a historic summer event in the Amerino region, hosted in Fornole, a hamlet of Amelia in the province of Terni. The star is the acciaccata, a typical Umbrian focaccia with a simple dough, cooked and "squashed" ("acciaccata") on the baking tray, to be enjoyed hot accompanied by local cured meats โ€” a humble dish from peasant tradition that has become a symbol of community in Fornole.

A festival with a long tradition

Organised by the Pro Loco of Fornole (local tourism board) with the support of the Municipality of Amelia, the festival has surpassed forty editions and often accompanies the celebrations in honour of San Giuseppe. The event offers a food stall every evening, where alongside the acciaccata, you can find dishes from Umbrian cuisine, along with evenings of music and entertainment that liven up the village.

Among the flavours of the Amerino region

The Sagra dell'Acciaccata is one of the many food and wine festivals that dot the summer of the Amerino region, an area of southern Umbria known for its dried figs (fichi girotti), wines, and cured meats. An opportunity to discover an authentic village and a specialty that is rarely found elsewhere.
