Bignè, bomboloni and donuts in Piazza Garibaldi, together with the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua
The Festa del Bignè is one of the key events for the community of Montecchio, a medieval village in the province of Terni. The heart of the event is Piazza Garibaldi, which for a few days in August fills with the aromas of pastry and music.
The stars are the bignè (cream puffs) filled with creams of various flavors, accompanied by bomboloni (donuts) and ciambelle (ring cakes) prepared according to tradition. Alongside the tasting of sweets, an open-air tavern offers typical Umbrian dishes, grilled specialties, and local wines.
Each evening is enlivened by bands and orchestras playing every musical genre, as well as tombola and games for all ages. The festival takes place concurrently with the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua and actively involves residents in the organization, in an authentically village atmosphere.
The 2026 edition of the Festa del Bignè returns to Montecchio from August 19 to 23 in Piazza Garibaldi, coinciding with the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua.
The stars are traditional sweets — bignè, bomboloni, and donuts — alongside the tavern with Umbrian grilled specialties. Every evening, bands and orchestras for every musical genre, plus tombola and games for the entire community.
It takes place alongside the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua. The detailed evening program will be released by the Pro Loco shortly before the event.
