The neighbourhood that celebrates

The Sagra del Giambellino is a widespread neighbourhood festival involving Giambellino-Lorenteggio, a working-class area with a strong identity in the southwest of Milan (Municipality 6, Province of Milan, Lombardy). The event takes place between two symbolic locations in the neighbourhood: Casetta Verde, at via Odazio 7, and Mercato Lorenteggio, at via Lorenteggio 177. It is promoted by the Giambellino-Lorenteggio Neighbourhood Workshop, an organisation active in strengthening the cohesion and participation of the local area.

A community programme

The festival brings together many facets of the neighbourhood. There is the food market, the community lunch, live music and folk dancing, the Giambellino choir, theatre and street circus performances. There are also moments for reflection, such as the seminar on Community Cooperatives and the presentation of the "Atlas of Change", along with the presentation of the neighbourhood newspaper "L'urlo del Giambellino" and a bowls tournament.

Between workshops and street art

Saturday's programme includes the Circobus circus workshop, a craft market, live music, a book presentation, and a street circus performance. An intertwining of languages — gastronomy, music, theatre, circus, culture, and social engagement — that makes the Sagra del Giambellino much more than just a festival: a moment when the neighbourhood tells its story and comes together.

A festival of solidarity

Admission is free and the spirit is one of participation: the festival arises from the grassroots, from the initiative of residents and community organisations, to enhance a neighbourhood often perceived as marginal but rich in energy and relationships.
