The Sagra del Castrato in Bagnara di Romagna
The Sagra del Castrato is one of the most deeply rooted gastronomic festivals in Bagnara di Romagna, a small town in the Bassa Romagna area of Ravenna Province, in Emilia-Romagna. The event celebrates castrato — spayed lamb — and the entire repertoire of Romagnol cuisine, in a convivial atmosphere of village celebration that attracts residents and visitors from the surrounding areas every year.
BagnaraFest Sport & Beer 2026
In the 2026 edition, the historic festival takes on a new look and merges with BagnaraFest Sport & Beer, combining two traditional local events into one big week-long celebration, from May 25th to 31st. The festival takes place in the green area adjacent to the sports field, along Via Giuliana, with guaranteed coverage even in case of bad weather. Every evening, starting from 6:30 PM, the food stand opens with aperitifs and DJ sets, while after dinner, the stage is set for live concerts.
Cuisine Takes Centre Stage
The menu features the best of Romagnol tradition. Among the first courses, highlights include cappelletti with Bolognese ragù, garganelli alla zingara, potato tortelli with four cheeses, and baked lasagne. The main courses revolve around the star of the festival: castrato leg, mixed grilled lamb, arrosticini, as well as boneless chicken leg, sausage with piadina, and hamburgers. To drink, wines from Tenute Melandri of Bagnara and Paulaner beer.
Live Music Every Evening
The week features a concert or DJ set every evening: starting with Giorgio e le Magiche Fruste, followed by evenings dedicated to blues and funk, pop-rock, and dance music, culminating in a grand finale on the weekend. A program designed to accompany dinner and get the crowd dancing until late at night.
Sports, Exhibitions, and Community
Alongside the food, BagnaraFest dedicates ample space to sports thanks to Wild Bagnara: amateur volleyball tournaments, football matches for children, fitness sessions, a colourful color run, and a final day with yoga, boxing, equestrian activities for children, and dance. Completing the program are two exhibitions dedicated to local history — "Madri costituenti" (Founding Mothers) and "Bagnara 1946: the first universal suffrage elections" — organised on the anniversary of women's suffrage. The organisation is managed by the associations FC Bagnara and Wild Bagnara, with the support of the Pro Loco and the patronage of the Municipality of Bagnara di Romagna.

From May 25th to 31st, 2026, Bagnara di Romagna hosted the Sagra del Castrato — BagnaraFest Sport & Beer, in the green area adjacent to the sports field on Via Giuliana. Every evening, from 6:30 PM, there was an aperitif with DJ sets and a food stand offering Romagnol traditional dishes: cappelletti with ragù, garganelli alla zingara, potato tortelli, castrato leg, grilled lamb, and arrosticini, accompanied by wines from Tenute Melandri and Paulaner beer.
The music program featured a concert or DJ set every evening, from Giorgio e le Magiche Fruste to the grand finale on the weekend. To complete the week, volleyball and football tournaments organised by Wild Bagnara, a color run, a final day with yoga, boxing, and dance, as well as the exhibitions "Madri costituenti" and "Bagnara 1946: the first universal suffrage elections".

How to Get There
By car, Bagnara di Romagna is easily accessible from the SS9 Via Emilia and the A14 Bologna–Ancona motorway (Imola or Lugo–Cotignola exits). By train, the nearest stations are Lugo and Imola, on the Bologna–Rimini line, from which you can continue with local transport.
