A month of tastings in the historic crotti of Stazzona, featuring wine, cured meats, and Larian tradition
The Sagra dei Crotti returns to Stazzona, in the province of Como, for the entire month of August. This is not a single weekend event but a widespread gathering that enlivens the village throughout the summer: from evening to evening, from crotto to crotto, the village comes alive with tastings, traditional dinners, and convivial moments. The official opening is set for August 1st, with the inauguration of the crotti, and the closing is on the last evening of the month with a final toast.
Crotti are natural cavities dug into the rock, crossed by the so-called sorel, a current of air that maintains a constant temperature around 8°C all year round. For centuries, the valley dwellers have used them to store wine, cheeses, and cured meats: during the festival, these stone cellars reopen and become the heart of the celebration. Entering them, in the height of summer, means passing from the heat of the day to the cool of the mountain in just a few steps.
The table at the Sagra dei Crotti tells the story of the Lario and nearby Valtellina tradition. Among the dishes you can enjoy are:
To accompany everything, local wines and traditional artisanal spirits.
In addition to tastings, the program includes guided tours of the crotti, live folk music, entertainment for children, and craft stalls. Ferragosto (August 15th) is one of the highlights, with a dedicated musical evening. Every weekend in August features traditional dinners and guided tastings, so reservations are recommended for the most popular crotti.
Stazzona is a small municipality in the Lombardy Region overlooking the Upper Lario, far from the mass tourism of more famous locations. The festival is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Como province, made of mule tracks, stone, and flavors that endure over time. Entry to the event is free.
The 2026 edition of the Sagra dei Crotti in Stazzona takes place throughout the month of August, opening on August 1st. As tradition dictates, the village's crotti reopen to welcome visitors and residents with tastings of local products, dinners featuring dishes from the Lario and Valtellina regions, and festivities spread throughout the month.
The detailed schedule of evenings and dinners will be published by the Municipality of Stazzona shortly before summer. The precise dates of individual events and the menus of the crotti will be announced in the weeks preceding the festival.
