In Pognana Lario, a small municipality overlooking the Como branch of Lake Como (province of Como), August 16th celebrates the patron saint San Rocco with a beloved gastronomic festival: the Sagra degli Gnocchi e della Salamella.
A Tradition Since 1974
The event, which has its roots in 1974, takes place in the square adjacent to the 14th-century church of San Rocco. The absolute stars are the handmade gnocchi: from morning to evening, over fifty volunteers from the Pro Loco (local community association) boil potatoes, mash them, knead them with flour, and cook the gnocchi, which are then seasoned and served to the public.
Taste and Celebration on the Lake
Alongside the gnocchi, you can enjoy flavorful grilled salamelle (local sausages). The day begins with a mass in honor of San Rocco and continues with the festival from midday, while in the evening the celebration continues with an orchestra and dancing in the square. An event during the Ferragosto period that combines devotion, culinary tradition, and conviviality, in the picturesque setting of the lake.
Sagra degli Gnocchi — edition 2026
The 2026 edition takes place on August 16th in the square next to the church of San Rocco in Pognana Lario. The day begins with the 10:30 AM mass and continues with the gastronomic festival from midday: over fifty Pro Loco volunteers handcraft gnocchi, served with various toppings along with salamelle. In the evening, an orchestra and dancing liven up the celebration on Lake Como.
