Cesana Brianza celebrates its patrons with faith, music, and fireworks
In the municipality of Cesana Brianza (Province of Lecco, Lombardy), overlooking Lake Annone, the Festival of Saints Fermo and Rustico is the most cherished event of the summer. The two saints, soldier martyrs also venerated in Verona and Bergamo, are the patrons of the town and give their name to the parish church, built over four centuries ago and housing paintings depicting their stories.
The heart of the festival is the solemn Mass, accompanied by the characteristic rite of the "rogo del globo" (globe burning), a moment of strong symbolic and traditional value. The procession that winds through the village streets, starting from Piazza Borromeo, and the concert by the San Fermo Musical Band at the sports field mark the days of celebration, in an interweaving of devotion and popular festivity.
The patronal festival is also a moment of gathering for the entire community: there are no shortage of events dedicated to the elderly, evening musical performances, and entertainment. The oratory offers a bar, restaurant, and the traditional charity raffle for the entire duration of the festival, while the grand finale is the fireworks display that lights up the sky over the lake. An event that unites the different generations of Cesana Brianza around their roots.
The natural setting of Cesana Brianza, nestled on the shores of Lake Annone in the heart of the Lecco region of Brianza, adds charm to the patronal festival. The fireworks display reflected on the lake waters is one of the most evocative and photographed moments of the local summer. The Festival of Saints Fermo and Rustico is one of those recurring events that preserve the identity of small municipalities, where religious dimension, community spirit at the oratory, and popular participation blend naturally. For residents and visitors alike, it is an occasion to come together, renew traditions, and share summer evenings filled with celebration.
The 2026 edition of the Festival of Saints Fermo and Rustico is expected in August in Cesana Brianza, following the tradition of celebrations concentrated around the patrons' feast day. The program, in line with recent editions, includes a concert by the San Fermo Musical Band at the sports field, events dedicated to the elderly, the solemn Mass with the rite of the globe burning, a procession through the village streets starting from Piazza Borromeo, and the final fireworks display. A bar, restaurant, and charity raffle from the oratory will be available throughout the festival.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the parish in the weeks preceding the festival. Following recent editions, the celebrations (four days in August) include: concert by the San Fermo Musical Band at the sports field; celebration for the elderly at the "Il Castello" center; evening musical performances; solemn Mass with the rite of the globe burning (also broadcast on YouTube); evening fireworks display; procession starting from Piazza Borromeo. Throughout the event, the oratory will offer a bar, restaurant, and charity raffle.
