About Sagra de u Cecu Maritu

In the hamlet of Aguzzo, in Stroncone (Terni), the "Cecu Maritu" is celebrated: a characteristic focaccia stuffed with local aromatic herbs, passed down orally from generation to generation. The curious name comes from a popular legend: the wife sent her "blind" husband to pick herbs as a pretext to meet her lover. Two weekends of gastronomy, music, and dancing at the Circolo Acli L'Olmo, between peasant tradition and Umbrian conviviality.

A festival with a curious name

The Sagra de u Cecu Maritu takes place in the small hamlet of Aguzzo, in the municipal territory of Stroncone, in the province of Terni. The star is the "Cecu Maritu", a focaccia stuffed with aromatic herbs typical of the area, whose recipe has been passed down orally from generation to generation.

The legend

The dialectal name, as curious as it is evocative, has its roots in a popular story: to go and meet her lover, a wife told her husband to go and pick the herbs needed to prepare the pizza; upon his return, she would cook this focaccia to make the excuse more believable. Hence the name that has made the dish and the festival famous.

Hamlet festival

The event is held at the Circolo Acli L'Olmo in Aguzzo and takes place over two weekends, between the end of July and the beginning of August. In addition to tasting the Cecu Maritu and local cuisine specialties, the evenings are enlivened by music and dancing, in a festive atmosphere that attracts residents and visitors from nearby villages.
