The April 25th road race on the Mondragone coastline, featuring a unique half-sand course
The Run on the Beach, also known by the name of its organizing association, Mondragone in Corsa, is the road race that brings hundreds of athletes to the coast of Mondragone, in the province of Caserta, Campania, every April 25th. Promoted by ASD Mondragone in Corsa under the aegis of FIDAL, it has quickly become one of the most anticipated events in the Campanian running calendar, combining a serious competitive race with the discovery of the Domitian coast on a national holiday.
The track measures 9.990 kilometers and consists of a roughly 5 km loop repeated twice, with the start and finish in Piazza M. L. Conte. About half of each lap is run on the sand, right by the water: this is the section that makes the race so unique and challenging, as the yielding surface completely changes your running rhythm and forces you to pace yourself carefully. The other half takes place on paved roads along the coastline.
The sixth edition took place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM. 336 athletes lined up at the start, with 287 finishers recorded. The men's race was won by Marco Pascarella (ASI Polisportiva Bellona) in 35'26", ahead of Capanna (36'21") and Capuano (36'47"); the women's title went to Francesca Sabatini of New Atletica Afragola. The official presentation was held on April 18th with a press conference at Lido Sinuessa, on the beach that hosts the most scenic part of the course.
What sets the Run on the Beach apart is the atmosphere: live music at several points along the route, a final refreshment area with artisanal sweets, fresh fruit, and typical products from the Caserta area, and an award ceremony area set up directly on the sand. Every year, organizers arrange partnerships with local beach clubs and pizzerias, allowing athletes and their families to turn the morning race into a full day at the beach. After all, April 25th marks the symbolic start of the beach season in Mondragone.
The event is managed by ASD Mondragone in Corsa, led by Rosa Nerone and Aldo Martucci, who oversee technical organization with the support of FIDAL judges and numerous local entities, including local producers who provide prizes in kind. The association has worked for years to promote the Domitian coast through sport, in a stretch of the Campanian coastline that combines long beaches, the silhouette of Monte Massico in the background, and the legacy of ancient Sinuessa.
The race is reserved for adults registered with FIDAL-affiliated clubs or recognized sports promotion bodies, as well as holders of a valid RUNCARD, all in compliance with health and insurance regulations. The number of entries is limited: registration closes once the maximum capacity set by the regulations is reached, so it is advisable to sign up well in advance of the race date.
