A Run in the Heart of Alto Rubicone
The Rubicone Trail is now a regular fixture for the Romagna trail running scene. Organized by ASD Rubicone for Sport, the event brings hundreds of athletes to Sogliano al Rubicone every year, a hilltop village in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, Emilia-Romagna, also famous for its 'formaggio di fossa' (pit-aged cheese). The meeting point is Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, from which all routes start, winding along the Sentieri dell'Alto Rubicone (Alto Rubicone Trails), a hiking network of about 155 km connecting villages, ridges, and the characteristic badlands of the valley.
Routes for Everyone
The event is designed to welcome both the most experienced trail runners and those who simply want to enjoy a walk in nature. The proposed distances are:
- Ultra — 44 km with 2300 meters of positive elevation gain, the queen event, valid for ITRA and UTMB indices;
- Long — 26 km with 1200 meters of elevation gain, also with ITRA and UTMB points;
- Short — 14 km with 500 meters of elevation gain, ideal for getting started in trail running;
- Fun Run — 11 km with 300 meters of elevation gain, non-competitive and open to all.
A Territory to Discover
More than just a race, the Rubicone Trail is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Romagna Apennines. The trails cross the landscapes of the badlands, the woods, and the hilly hamlets like Montegelli, in a constant dialogue between sport, nature, and the enhancement of the territory. The event stems from the collaboration between the organizing association, local entities, and the Municipality of Sogliano al Rubicone, with the aim of combining the passion for running with the tourism promotion of the valley.
More Than a Race
A true village festival develops around the competitions: aid stations along the routes, services for athletes, a final refreshment, and awards in the main square. The number of participants is limited to ensure quality and safety, and registrations close once the maximum capacity is reached. An event that transforms Sogliano al Rubicone into the capital of the hinterland trail every spring.
Rubicone Trail — edition 2026
For its tenth anniversary, the 2026 Rubicone Trail offered the usual range of routes along the Alto Rubicone Trails, enhanced by the new La Prova del Lupo OCR event, organized together with Lupi di Sparta ASD and valid for the FIOCR circuit. The meeting point and all starts were in Sogliano al Rubicone, Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, confirming the strong link between the event and the Cesena hinterland territory.

- 8:00 AM — Start of the Ultra 44 km (2300 m D+, ITRA and UTMB index valid)
- 9:00 AM — Start of the Long 26 km (1200 m D+, ITRA and UTMB index valid)
- 9:00 AM — Start of the Short 14 km (500 m D+)
- 9:00 AM — Start of the Fun Run 11 km (300 m D+)
- 9:30 AM — Start of La Prova del Lupo – OCR 14 km (500 m D+, 15 obstacles)
- from 12:00 PM — Final refreshment and awards ceremony in Piazza Matteotti

Highlights Rubicone Trail 2026
The great novelty of the tenth anniversary was La Prova del Lupo, the first obstacle course race (OCR) included in the program: 14 km with 15 obstacles, in collaboration with Lupi di Sparta ASD and valid for the FIOCR circuit.

How to Get Here
Sogliano al Rubicone is located in the hinterland of the Province of Forlì-Cesena. By car, take the A14 motorway exit at Cesena Nord or Rimini Nord, then the E45 dual carriageway and provincial roads towards the hinterland. By train, the nearest stations are Cesena and Savignano sul Rubicone, from which you can continue by car.
Meeting Point and Starts
Everything takes place in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti in Sogliano al Rubicone. Bib collection is scheduled for Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning before the starts.
