The De.Co. busslanein festival in San Nicolò a Trebbia
In 2026, the Fera dal Busslanein reaches the prestigious milestone of its thirtieth edition. Organized since 1993 by the Pro Loco Amis ad San Niculò in collaboration with the Municipality of Rottofreno, the event takes place in San Nicolò a Trebbia, the most populous hamlet of the municipality, in the heart of the Piacenza plain in Emilia-Romagna. From June 12 to 15, the festival enlivens Piazza Annibale Barca and the surrounding streets, confirming itself as one of the most cherished events of the summer in the Province of Piacenza.
The busslanein is a small, sweet, ring-shaped cake, a traditional product certified De.Co. (Denominazione Comunale - Municipal Designation) and preserved by the Ark of Taste of Slow Food. Its origins are lost in the centuries: the recipe was already known in the 14th century, and these biscuits were once given to those receiving confirmation, who wore them around their necks like long necklaces. Made with flour, sugar, butter, and milk, and briefly blanched before baking, busslanein can be enjoyed both crunchy and crumbly, excellent for dipping in milk for breakfast or in sweet wine at the end of a meal.
The evenings are marked by live music: the Rancati Band (June 12), the Orchestra Monti (June 13), Marco e il Clan (June 14), and Vincenzi (June 15) will perform on stage. The food stands open every evening from 7 PM, offering flavors of the Piacenza tradition, alongside a cocktail area and a charity stall.
The Fera dal Busslanein is included among the Quality Festivals recognized by UNPLI (Italian National Union of Pro Loco), a mark that rewards events capable of enhancing a typical product and the identity of the territory. In San Nicolò a Trebbia, this translates into four days of authentic celebration, where local gastronomy, folk music, and conviviality tell the roots of a community that has made its ring cake a recognizable symbol throughout the Province of Piacenza.
