Calendasco's Summer Music Evenings

In the heart of summer, the small Municipality of Calendasco, in the province of Piacenza, offers "Summer Wednesdays": a series of free music evenings that liven up the town center and its hamlets on Wednesday evenings in June and July. The initiative is promoted by the Municipality and aimed at all citizens, with the goal of transforming the squares into places of meeting, music, and conviviality during the warm season.

Music, Squares, and Good Food

The heart of the event is Piazza Bergamaschi, which hosts concerts by local bands and singer-songwriters from the Piacenza area. Some evenings then move to other spaces in the town—such as the garden along Via Dante Alighieri—for DJ sets, karaoke, and covers of great classics. Accompanying the music is always the food stand, which opens in the early evening with local specialties: most notably the famous batarò, the typical Piacenza focaccia filled with cured meats, cheeses, and vegetables, along with cured meats, cheeses, and traditional desserts.

A Village on the Via Francigena

Calendasco is not just about summer music. The village is a historic stop on the Via Francigena: here, in 990, the Archbishop of Canterbury Sigeric crossed the Po River on his journey to Rome, and even today the ford of Sigeric in Soprarivo locality attracts pilgrims and walkers. Participating in a "Summer Wednesdays" evening is therefore also a way to discover this corner of the Lower Piacenza area, between the Po River, its ancient ports, and the atmosphere of the Emilia plain.
