A night of love within the medieval walls of Suvereto, in the heart of the Val di Cornia
The Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy is one of the most anticipated national events promoted by the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. Since its inception in 2015, it has transformed hundreds of small historic centers into scenes suspended in time, where the beauty of alleys and squares meets the heart. For the eleventh edition, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, the chosen theme is "Love for Memories," an invitation to rediscover roots, memories, and traditions that unite generations. It is considered one of the first major events of the Italian summer and attracts around half a million visitors across the peninsula every year.
Among the participating villages is Suvereto, a stunning town in the municipality of the same name in the Province of Livorno, in the heart of Tuscany and the Etruscan Coast. Nestled on the hills of the Val di Cornia, the village preserves its medieval soul intact and is a proud member of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy circuit.
The name Suvereto derives from the Latin suber, meaning cork, in memory of the cork oak forests that still dot the territory today. The town's origins date back to before the year 1000, when coastal populations sought safer locations on the inland heights. The heart of the village is enclosed by 13th-century walls, still largely visible, dominated from above by the Rocca Aldobrandesca. The Town Hall, built in 1201, is one of the oldest medieval civic buildings in all of Tuscany. It is in this intimate and evocative setting that Suvereto dresses up for its most romantic night.
In Suvereto, the Romantic Night comes to life in Piazza San Martino, transformed for the occasion into a small stage for love: amidst stairs, jute sacks, and sand, lovers are invited to leave their own declarations in an interactive display designed to play with the theme of memories. The evening is part of the village's rich summer weekend, which also hosts Note di Vermentino, the festival dedicated to the local white wine, during the same period.
The Romantic Night is not just Italian: the associations of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, Spain, Wallonia (Belgium), and Bosnia and Herzegovina also organize similar initiatives in their respective countries on the same occasion, making this evening an international event dedicated to enhancing the identity and heritage of these territories.
For the 2026 Romantic Night, Suvereto celebrates the national theme "Love for Memories" with an evening spread throughout the streets of the historic center, in the heart of the Val di Cornia. The focal point of the event is Piazza San Martino, set up with an interactive installation โ a staircase, jute sacks, and sand โ designed to welcome visitors' declarations of love and play with the common thread of memories. The evening intertwines with the Note di Vermentino weekend, dedicated to local white wine, seafood cuisine, and live music.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Suvereto as part of the national initiative of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. For full schedule details, it is recommended to check the official municipal channels.
