The Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy is a national event that, every year at the start of summer, illuminates over two hundred Italian villages belonging to the I Borghi più Belli d'Italia association. In 2026, the event takes place on Saturday, June 20, centered around the theme "Love for Memories"—an invitation to rediscover roots, traditions, and flavors that connect different generations. Among the participating villages is Scarperia e San Piero, located in the heart of the Mugello region, in the Province of Florence (Tuscany).

A Medici village for a night of love

Scarperia is one of the most charming villages in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Founded by the Florentine Republic in 1306 as an outpost on the road to Bologna, it preserves a historic center clustered around the monumental Palazzo dei Vicari, with its facade adorned with stone and ceramic coats of arms. It is in this setting, also known for its ancient tradition of knife-making, that the Romantic Night finds its ideal backdrop: candlelit alleys, medieval vistas, and the intimate atmosphere of a town that transforms into a set from another era for one night.

What's happening in town

For the occasion, the historic center comes alive with candlelit aperitifs and dinners in local venues, accompanied by a musical backdrop designed to create a special atmosphere. The Palazzo dei Vicari museum complex remains open until 7:00 PM with regular admission, while the frescoed atrium is accessible for free until 11:00 PM, allowing residents and visitors to experience the heart of the monument in a unique light.

Concert by Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi

The highlight of the evening is the concert by Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi, scheduled for 9:00 PM with free admission. A refined and versatile singer-songwriter, active for over twenty years and founder of the band La Crus in 1993, Giovanardi presents the show "E poi scegliere con cura le parole", featuring tracks from his new work and reinterpretations of great Italian songwriting. The concert is part of the seventh edition of the traveling festival "Dei Suoni i Passi", organized by Fabbrica Europa along the Via degli Dei between Bologna and Florence.

The Romantic Night was launched in 2016 as an initiative of the I Borghi più Belli d'Italia association and has become one of the most anticipated summer events in small towns. Strolls through historic centers, concerts, folk serenades, guided tours, exhibitions, installations, and culinary experiences culminate at night with the traditional toast and the midnight kiss. In Scarperia, all this intertwines with the village's Medici history and the cultural vitality of the Mugello, offering participants a night of music, beauty, and memories.
