A night of love in the most beautiful villages, in Palazzolo Acreide
The Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy is a grand national festival promoted by the I Borghi piรน Belli d'Italia association. Every year, around the summer solstice, it invites visitors to experience a special evening dedicated to love amidst the streets of Italy's historic villages. Palazzolo Acreide, a refined Baroque village in the province of Syracuse, Sicily, is one of the certified municipalities that belongs to this prestigious network.
Nestled in the Iblean Mountains at an altitude of about 670 meters, Palazzolo Acreide is one of the eight late-Baroque towns of the Val di Noto inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Its monumental churches, such as the Basilica of San Paolo and the Church of San Sebastiano, its noble palaces, and the alleys of the historic center offer the perfect backdrop for a night of romance. The ancient Greek Akrai, with its theater and three thousand years of layered history, adds charm and allure to the event.
The formula for the Romantic Night is the same one that unites over two hundred Italian villages from north to south: the historic center is illuminated by soft lights, candles, and torches, while the streets come alive with concerts and live music, street performances, art installations, photo exhibitions, and tastings of local products. The most anticipated moment is the midnight kiss, a symbolic ritual that simultaneously unites all the squares of the participating villages.
The 2026 edition, scheduled for June 20th, revolves around the theme "Love for Memories", an invitation to rediscover the emotions that time cannot erase and that continue to live in the places that have guarded them. The signature dessert of the event, the "Pensiero d'Amore" (Thought of Love), will also serve as a common thread throughout Italy. The detailed program of initiatives in Palazzolo Acreide is announced by the municipal administration and the association in the days leading up to the event.
Participating in the Romantic Night in Palazzolo Acreide means discovering one of the most fascinating villages in the Municipality and the Sicilian Region: an opportunity to combine the magic of a romantic evening with the beauty of the Iblean Baroque, local gastronomy, and the typical hospitality of south-eastern Sicily.
The 2026 edition of the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy took place on Saturday, June 20th, marking the eleventh edition of the national event. The chosen theme, "Love for Memories", invited visitors to rediscover the emotions preserved in Italy's historic villages.
As in the other two hundred and thirty participating municipalities, in Palazzolo Acreide, in the province of Syracuse, the evening was inspired by the event's established formula: soft lights and torches in the historic center, live music, tastings of local products, and the ritual of the midnight kiss that symbolically unites all the squares of Italy. Nationally, the signature dessert "Pensiero d'Amore" served as a common thread.
Palazzolo Acreide is located in the Iblean Mountains, in the province of Syracuse. By car, it can be reached via the SS124 (Syracuse-Floridia-Palazzolo) or the SP road towards Noto and Avola. The most convenient train station is in Syracuse, from where you can continue by regional bus lines. The reference airports are Catania Fontanarossa and Comiso.
The event takes place in the evening, culminating in the midnight kiss. The 2026 edition is set for Saturday, June 20th.
The event takes place in the public spaces of the historic center; many activities are free. Some themed dinners and tastings may require reservations at participating establishments.
