About Rivoli Carnival

The Rivoli Carnival is one of Piedmont's most beloved events. Established in the 1950s, it centers on the mask of the Conte Verde, inspired by Amadeus VI of Savoy. Between late January and mid-February, the city of Rivoli, in the Province of Turin, comes alive with the investiture of the Count, the Children's Carnival, a masquerade ball, and, above all, the grand parade of allegorical floats along Corso Francia. It is a community celebration organized by the Pro Loco of Rivoli that weaves together Savoyard history, popular tradition, and fun for all ages.

The Rivoli Carnival

The Rivoli Carnival is a long-standing tradition that every winter transforms the city center on the outskirts of Turin into a grand stage of color, music, and masks. Now in its 72nd edition in 2026, it is organized by the Pro Loco of Rivoli in collaboration with the City of Rivoli and with the support of the Piedmont Region and the Metropolitan City of Turin. The event takes place over several days, from late January to mid-February, involving the entire Rivoli community, from the historic center to the Cascine Vica district.

The Conte Verde, the symbolic mask

The heart of the carnival is the Conte Verde, the official mask inspired by the historical figure of Amadeus VI of Savoy (1334-1383), one of the protagonists of the Piedmontese Middle Ages who was deeply connected to Rivoli, the seat of the Savoyard court in the 14th century. The nickname comes from the green attire he wore during a famous tournament in 1353. The carnival opens with the investiture ceremony of the Conte Verde and the symbolic handing over of the city keys by the Mayor, a moment that recalls the medieval roots and the pride of the community.

The program

The calendar alternates between institutional moments and social gatherings designed for families and children:

  • Children's Carnival: A masked parade dedicated to the little ones, starting from Largo Pistoia in Cascine Vica and arriving at the Giardini Falcone.
  • Masquerade Ball: An evening featuring dinner, entertainment, music, and awards for the best costumes at the Centro Incontro Don Puglisi.
  • Grand Parade of Allegorical Floats: The highlight of the event, taking place along Corso Francia, with floats, marching bands, and majorettes parading through the city amidst cheering crowds.

In the weeks leading up to the event, the Conte Verde and the Amedeo VI Historical Group visit local schools with theatrical performances to share the historical roots of Rivoli with the younger generation.

A celebration for the whole community

The Rivoli Carnival is more than just a show; it is an opportunity for connection that unites generations and neighborhoods. In recent years, the event has also opened its doors to accessibility and inclusion initiatives, a sign of a carnival that remains faithful to its popular tradition while looking to the future. For those visiting the Province of Turin in winter, it is the ideal opportunity to discover one of Piedmont's most heartfelt celebrations in a city that preserves a rich Savoyard heritage, from the Casa del Conte Verde to the Castle, home to the Museum of Contemporary Art.
