Music is born in the woods, among the resonance fir trees
There is a place in Friuli where music is truly born from trees. It is Val Saisera, at the foot of the Montasio massif, where resonance fir trees grow: a precious and rare wood, chosen for centuries by luthiers to build violins, violas, and cellos. From this deep connection between forest, wood, and sound, Risonanze Festival comes to life, one of the most original events on the Italian music scene.
Now in its 11th edition in 2026, the festival brings concerts into the woods, under the canopy of fir trees, and tells the entire story from tree to instrument. It is not just a series of concerts: it is a journey that combines listening, nature, and knowledge, designed to reconnect the audience with the most authentic meaning of making music.
The program intertwines different languages: concerts in the woods of Val Saisera, Forest Sound Track walks, meetings with musicians and luthiers, lutherie workshops, candlelit evening concerts, and musical tastings. Ensembles playing baroque, classical, and world music take turns on stage, in dialogue with the valley's natural setting.
Alongside the concerts, the "Taste the Music" series pairs zero-kilometer tastings with conversations between musicians, luthiers, and the artistic director, in collaboration with local food and wine producers.
The festival unfolds between Val Saisera and the village of Malborghetto, a hamlet of the municipality of Malborghetto-Valbruna in the province of Udine, in the heart of Val Canale. We are in the far northeast of Italy, where Italian, Slovenian, and Austro-German cultures meet, in a landscape of forests and peaks that becomes, for a few days, a grand natural stage.
The 2026 edition confirms the formula that has made the festival unique: music experienced within nature, among the fir trees from which instrument wood originates. The landscape of Val Saisera transforms into a large open-air stage, with concerts in the woods, sound walks, moments dedicated to lutherie, and candlelit evenings.
The detailed program for the 11th edition will be announced in the coming weeks on www.risonanzefestival.com. The traditional structure includes concerts in the Val Saisera woods, Forest Sound Track walks, candlelit evening concerts in Malborghetto, meetings and workshops with luthiers, and the "Taste the Music" tasting series.
Malborghetto and Val Saisera are located in Val Canale, in the province of Udine, reachable from the A23 motorway (Ugovizza-Valbruna exit). The concerts in the woods involve short walks; suitable footwear is recommended.
